Jackie Robinson: Is everyone sick of hearing about him?

Question:My goodness who gives a crap. We should move on from all this racial stuff. I am a minority (Native American) and I could careless about slavery and the plight of the "Black Man". How about the millions of Natives that were slaughtered so Europeans could have unlimited land holdings in the U.S.
To be honest I dont care about that either, lets just move on.

Who has the record for the highest batting average over one season?

It's funny how blacks always claim that Jackie Robinson did so much for blacks. What, did he give blacks money, or something? No, he made money for HIMSELF playing major league baseball. He didn't do anything to change sports. It was the white men who allowed him to play the game that changed sports.

Blacks like to overstate everything a black celebrity or athlete does so it will sound like there's always someone behind the scenes trying to hold them back. This way, they can keep whining about "evil whitey" and demand things from whites.

Why do you yankee fools continue to be in denial?

Wht he did deserves to be celebrated even today. Its not about what the "black man" endured, its about what Jackie himself endured. He single handedly changed not only the game of baseball but society as a whole. Anyone that doesn't think he should be celebrated needs to study a little history so you can see what he went through and the impact he had. I do think the day should celebrate Branch Rickey as well because without him it could of taken a lot longer for someone to take the risk to sign a black player. I wish we could just move on as you say, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't celebrate the people that gave us the freedom to able to do that.

YES!

How many homeruns does AROD have to hit?

Absolutely not. Jackie Robinson did an amazing thing that will always be relevant. I'm not denying or downplaying what happened to Native Americans, and I agree that we should be able to see past the race stuff we all face everyday, but that doesn't mean we should demean what Mr. Robinson did. At a time when baseball reached more people in this country than almost anything else, he came out in front of people, some who wanted him dead, and showed that minorities could be equal to, even better than white folks. It was people like him who in a small way paved the way for Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr., and all those who came after.

Who holds the record for most home runs in a mlb game?

if you had any soul at all, especially considering that you are a minority, you should understand their plight and struggle better than most people...they were oppressed for years by people who just refused to see past the color of their skin...sadly, however, you just don't get it

Its very clear that you do not care about American History. Jackie Robinson was making great strides in American History. He was before Rosa Parks and MLK Jr. Jackie Robinson wasn't just an important person for blacks but for all americans.

Who thinks that A Rod is on some sort of drug?

While it is true that the racial angle is sometimes overplayed by the media, (remember how they were going on and on about two black coaches in the Super Bowl), it shouldn't take away from anything that Jackie Robinson has done. Yes, ideally, race shouldn't be an issue and in a perfect world it really shouldn't matter at all, but it is still an issue even now. Things are a lot better now than they were centuries ago, or even 50 years ago. But back then race was a big problem in baseball, and it took a lot of courage for Jackie Robinson to dare to do what he did, knowing the hardships that he would have to endure and the burden that he would have to carry, not just for himself but possibly for an entire group of people. Maybe if he didn't do it, someone else would have later, but the fact remains that he was the first one to dare to challenge the status quo, and that his influence made a huge impact on the game of baseball. And yes, Branch Rickey also deserves a lot of credit too for having the guts to bring him in. From a historical perspective also, Jackie used his influence from baseball to vocally support Civil Rights Movement leaders like MLK and Malcolm X, and also was a part of the establishment of the Freedom Bank. So even if this topic may somtimes seems overplayed by ESPN or some other media source, there's no denying Jackie Robinson did great things for the game and deserves to be commended.

Should I pick up Jermaine Dye off the waiver wire and drop Alex Gordon?

I am not sick of hearing about him! He did a lot for our culture!

Youth baseball?

what jackie did was great but the rasicsm in sports talk has got to stop. the reason that there are not many black baseball players is because of the instant millions and quicker playing time in football and basketball. Not many kids want to be stuck in the minors for four years then get called up and be a bench player for a year or two. inner cities do not have the funding for fields and equipment along with funding for football and basketball. it needs to stop its ridiculous.
