If you can try to do as much resistance sprints as you can.If you have access to a beach run on the sand. Or if you have access to a treadmill, increase the incline and walk for say 3 minutes and sprint as fast as you can for 1.
I did that all winter and I am currently leading my team in stolen bases. My coach as well as myself noticed a huge difference... Best of luck! And that is not a stupid question at all... Many players do long distance running to train and that doesn't help for softball. Softball is a great sport! I have been playing for basically my entire life... I know a lot about it
Try to flatten the curves of rounding a base. Instead of slowing down to turn in the direction of the next base, run slightly to the right and make a longer less steep angle towards the next bag. This keeps you from slowing down and possibly injuring a hamstring with sudden directional turns.

Get a tire and a rope. Tie one end of the rope on the tire and the other on your waist. Run sprints with it tied to you and you will run faster.More Questions & Answers...
