The best way I know is to place a softball in the webbing, then wrap the glove in rope or belts. Leave it that way for a day or two.Bake it in the oven with spray on it. Leave a brick on the top of it for a couple of days. Or leave it face down spread out on the ground for like a week.

you have to soften the leather and the best way for that is to rub in SMALL amounts of foam shaving cream or Vaseline. Then place a softball in the proper position and tie it together with rubber bands so it stays in that position. Sleep with it under your mattress. i just bought my daughter one...my husband, who used to be a coach, said that the best way to break one in is to bend it and move it all around (preferably the adult, if it is for a child)...i put my hand in my daughters and bent it everyway i could for about an hour...you may have to oil it, too...depending on the glove, check the label.other things that are suggested might harm it...remember, my hubby was a coach :)

There are a few different paths you can take here. Obviously, as you stated, using it is the BEST way to break it in. In addition to that, you can buy various oils and ointments to apply to your glove. A cheap, safe alternative you can use is shaving cream with aloe. Anyways, you should apply whatever ointment you choose atleast once or twice a week and put a softball in the glove, then proceed to tie it up with string or put a strong rubber band around it. The lather will soak in and make the glove softer and with the string/band around the glove with the ball inside will allow it to break in. Do not oil it or use vasoline. That will make it very floppy and you wont catch the ball. The best thing to do is wrap two softballs and grab tough string and wrap around it when you aren't playing catch so like when your done playing wrap it and it will be good. you will be playing like jim edmonds. There are lots of funky idea out there. Do not bake it, it is cured leather not a meatloaf. Baking it will dry out the leather and make it less supple; that is not your goal.Do not put oil or conditioning lotion on it now either. You are too close to the start of the season. No matter how hard you wipe out the excess, it will continue to "bleed" in the weeks to come. Plus it will ruin the baseballs or softballs your team uses as the conditioning agent will stain them and make them slippery. Use the Neet's Foot oil on the glove at the end of the season to keep the leather soft during the dry-air winter season.
Asisde from actually using the glove, put a ball in the pocket and tie a belt, rope, or bungy cord around it when the glove is not in use. This will help form the pocket. Good Luck!
