I don't think much of Barry Bonds. I'm from Michigan so I don't hear anything about him unless it's on SportsCenter-so I don't know if he's an A-hole or not. I don't think he's a "cheater" because if he did use steroids when people say he did, it wasn't cheating at that point and there are a whole bunch of people that would have to be called "cheaters." The only reason we are talking about Bonds and steroids...and nobody else...is because he's going to break the Home Run Record..."The greatest record in sports." Until he is proven to have used steroids to assist him in reaching the milestone, EVERYONE should celebrate the record being broken...except maybe Hank's family. If baseball doesn't celebrate it, then baseball sucks.For the short version: I don't think anything of Bonds based on personality. I don't think he's a cheater. He should make the HOF. Baseball better celbrate him breaking the record.

I have been a baseball fan for over 30 years and have never seen a more talented overall player and I have watched Reggie Jackson, Jim Rice, Ken Griffey Jr, Albert Pujols (closest thing to the heir apparent), Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, etc. Racist fans and conspiracy theorists will say "he used steroids" and ignore his assault on Aaron's record and plead that MLB ignore when he does break it. However, to this date, NOTHING has been proven and people are so ready to assume his guilt. I only wish these people would stare themselves in the mirror and wonder if they have ever been accused of doing something they didnt do. Or if they did, were they "assumed" guilty? Some country we live in where the public is so quick to judge and assume a person's guilt based on anyone's accusations. Rewind 2,000+ years ago and a man named Jesus of Nazareth, having done nothing but love and teach and forgive people of their sins, was labeled a heretic and blasphemer. I am not, in any way, comparing Bonds to Jesus except for this analogy. Jesus said "let he who is without sin cast the first stone". And NO ONE came forward. If only people today would remind themselves that they themselves are not perfect, and to tear down celebrities or athletes, will not make them any better of a person. So to all of you haters out there, remember this one thing. Barry Bonds started working towards breaking this HR record wayyy back in the late 80s and since then, I have also put on some pounds and gotten stronger. I have NEVER used steroids. Why isn't anyone accusing ME of it????

Predritorodd, I agree with you on the basic premise that it shouldn't matter, and nothing as of yet has been proven - despite the fact that I think he is a lousy human being.I admire the ability - that is what it is. The steroids might help a little, and call it cheating if you will, but the steroids don't speed up your reaction time and keep your eyes clear.
However, there is nothing racist about perceptions of him. People have called him guilty on what little information has come out - and that is all. Conspiracy theories and calls of racism are laughable at best. When you are an a**hole (and Bonds is an a**hole, his abilities aside), then you will never get the benefit of the doubt. If his PR were better, not as many people would be as quick to judge.
And comparing Bonds to Jesus?? YOU have got to be kidding me - next, you'll try telling Clinton was the first black man in the Oval Office, or that Saddam Hussein was guilty of nothing but loving his people too much. Are you serious?
Again, I admire the abilities of the man, and don't believe in putting an asterisk by any records; I don't think he is a good person, but Ty Cobb was an a**hole too, and Mickey Mantle was a drunk. So what - their abilities are real and genuine, as is Bonds'. Enhanced, maybe, but makes no difference to me.

He's a tragic figure in the classic Greek sense of the word. He would have easily the Hall of Fame on talent alone . Now because of his steroid use he may not ever become a member.Most who visit this site regard him as a pariah , a man to be shunned and despised because of his blatant violations of the morality of baseball.
