Formula for ERA?
Question:I want to figure out the ERA of all of my starting pitchers, but without my relief pitchers, can i just add up the ERA of each pitcher then divide it by the # of pitchers, or do i hav to add up the # of innings pitched of each pitcher then add up the # of earned runs, then divide by 9? i prolly screwed up when saying that, but how do i do it? remember, im looking to figure out the average of MULTIPLE pitchers, not just one.

Yup, you're right. Yankee fans know that because YANKEE FANS ARE SMART, UNLIKE RED SOX FANS!Oliver Perez is the key man for the NY Mets. Who is the key man on your fave team?
It depends. If you want the team ERA:
(Tot ER / TOT IP) * 9
If you want the average ERA for your pitchers, add up their ERAs and divide by the # of pitchers.
Total number of earned runs times 9 (If pro ball), 7 (if high school), or 6 (if little league) and divide by number of innings pitched (use fractions -- more accurate)
Example: HS pitcher allows 30 earned runs in 46 and 2/3 innings. 30 times 7 equals 210 and divide by 46 2/3 equalsa 4.92 ERA.
