Fantasy Baseball: Is My Team Good? Strengths/Weaknesses/Sugg...

Question:This is my first year doing fantasy baseball so I'm not sure what positions were most important. I'm in a 10 Team Leauge. The following are my main players by position:

Pitchers: John Smoltz (ATL Braves), Felix Hernandez (SEA Mariners), Diasuke Matsuzaka (BOS Red Sox)
C: Brain McCann (ATL Braves)
1B: Carlos Delgado (NY Mets)
2B: Robinson Cano (NY Yankees)
3B: Alex Rodriguez (NY Yankees)
SS: Edgar Renteria (ATL Braves)
OF: Manny Ramirez (BOS Red Sox), Andruw Jones (ATL Braves), Ken Griffey Jr. (CIN Reds), Pat Burrel (PHI Phillies)

Answers:

Is it just me...?

You have a good starting lineup, but if stolen bases are part of the scoring you will have some trouble as no one but Alex Rodriguez has stolen 20 bases in a very long time. Your lineup has some pop, if Cano Robinson and McCann keep up the batting average this year, that will help quite a bit. Be ready for both of them to drop to the .280 range. If that does happen they will not be able to overcome the lower batting averages of Delgado, Griffey and Burrell.

You did not show your relief pitchers; they are very important for the saves category and can pick up enough wins and strikeouts to make the difference in a good year and a very successful year. Your starting pitchers that you show will do well in strikeouts and probably wins.

Since this is your first year, here are some ideas. Normally you can have only one player per position, plus a utility player (comparable to the designated hitter). Most leagues have a limitation on the number of games you can have slotted for each position for the year; my league is 170 games with the normal maximum 162 per player. That means on the days the Yankees are off, I have 8 extra games you can use a back up third baseman for Rodriguez. That is not much extra use for a back up third baseman.

I recommend that you have very few back up position players. Instead you have extra relief pitchers that can fill the void when they are not being used by a starting pitcher. Later in the year you will likely find an opportunity to pick up a relief pitcher that qualifies to fill your lineup as a Starting Pitcher (SP). Why waste a slot on the daily lineup with a normal starting pitcher that is not slated to play. In past years I have grabbed Dustin Hermanson and Ryan Dempster; they put me over the top in saves and certainly helped with strikeouts. If I had not done this my bench players would have been very useless.

This plan has helped me do very well the past few years. Since you are in a 10-team league, I know you are not in one of mine, so Good Luck this year!

Edit- Not a bad start with 2 home runs on opening day from your shortstop!

Who would have won?

You have a great team Pat Burrel hit 5 home runs in spring training, but you need to trade for one more good pitcher. Get a better catcher.

What is ironic about the song "Take me out to the Ballgame?"?

Dice-K is a big risk/big reward player.

Renteria is solid but aging.

You have 3 guys (Delgado, Andruw, Burrell) that will keep your overall average below .300.

And Griffey is still recovering.

I suggest you trade Burrell or Jones for a Runner because you need runs and steals. If you're in a money league, consider trading off Dice-K.

8/10

Who is the best relief pitcher in baseball this year?

Try to trade Griffey for a different outfield that isn't injury prone.Other that that you have a great team. 9/10

My fellow baseball fans, what annoys you more. when a hitter swings on a 3-0 count? or the first pitch?

You have a pretty good team but no closer. I would try to get whatever you can for at least one closer if not two. Other thanthat your team is good.

Has there ever been a totally ambidextrous pitcher and are there any rules governing which arm he would use?

Good team..wheres your closer tho?

Bert "Be Home" Blyleven is my favorite Chris Berman nickname, what's yours?

yeah I was thinking see if you can get yourself another good solid pitcher. Anyway, this is my first year as well so I don't quite know everything yet, but it looks like you have a great lineup!

Is there a website that lists the weather condition for each mlb ballpark?

It's a great line up. I think A-Rod will make or break your team. We'll see how he does this year.

Who was the first Canadian ever to play major league baseball?

Great trade Smoltz for calos zambrano or for jake peavy or ben sheets and they would probably accept the trade.

Otherwise great team.

Who do you think is going to win the American League championship??!!??!!?

you have a prety good team but you have weak pitching

When is Roger Clemon's first game back with the Yankees?

For pitchers you no doubt need to add Johan Santana. You can't go wrong with him. No question about it.

Where can I find a team's run allowed distribution per inning?

Keep in mind, it is a 10 team league. Chances are every team in your league has very good players on it. The difference maker in a 10 team league is what you do with those players.

Advice:
1. Bench players with poor matchups, whether it be against a elite pitcher or a big hitting team.

2. Monitor your opponants innings pitched. Do not over pitch, if he is only going to pitch 30 innings, you shouldn't pitch more than 40 innings.

3. Waiver wire will have talent on it, do not wait for a marginal player to come around (ie: Burrel) if he struggles early, cut your loses and get a player off the waiver wire.

4. Moniter probable waiver pitchers. Pick up a pitcher that is pitching tomorrow that you kinda like... you do not have to start him, but if he pitches well, you can either keep him, or chances are someone in your league will be intrigued by his recent good performance and will trade you something for him.

Do you think th Atlanta Braves will win the world series this year?

ok
