Can the Minnesota Twins win the World Series?
It has to be the Cubs. CWS have had their turn and it is time for the billy goat to go away(not that i believe in it anyway). The Cubs added the most complete player in the MLB(Alfonso Soriano). D Lee is back along w/ Aramis Ramirez. Then to finish it off, They have a Cy Young Candidate in Carlos Zambrano. It looks like to me that the pieces are finally falling in place for the Cubs!P.S. I'm a BRAVES fan!

sox hi g.p.Huge Sox fan. Though opening day was outright ugly, I really like their chances to do well this season. They have passion, they are grinders, and they are the pride and joy of us southsiders. If it wasn't for the hardest division in baseball, my expectations would be twice as high.
Just gotta hope Contreras gets his act together and Danks can prove to be a sufficient 5th starter.
Who is team to watch in second half of season? cardinals? yankees?
This is in response to the poster's question, but also to Georgie Porgie's...The White Sox have finished with in 3rd place or higher every single year since 1990. The White Sox have only had a losing record two times in that span (80-82 in 1997 and 1998).
The White Sox have won their division three times in that span (1993, 2000 & 2005). They won the AL Title and World Series in 2005, and they finished with a 90-72 record in 2006 but missed the playoffs (the WORLD CHAMPION St. Louis Cardinals only won 85 games in 2006).
The Cubs - on the other hand - in the same amount of time - has finished above .500 six times. In other words, they have only won more games than they lost in a single season six times in a seventeen year span. They won their division in 2003 only to be knocked out of the NLCS via the infamous "Bartman" game (which was not the fault of Bartman in the least - it should be called the Alex Gonzalez-boot game instead) and won the Wild Card in 1998. This incredible run includes four seasons in which the won 68 games or less - with a schedule of 162 games in a season. In other words they nearly lost 100 games four times in the last 17 years.
Georgie Porgie's Tigers - the pride of the AL - has had one World Series appearance since 1990. That was in 2006, however; they lost to the Cardinals.
In the last seventeen years, the Tiggers/KItties have finished above .500 exactly three times - two of which were in 1991 and 1993. They have lost 90 or more games FIVE times in that span - and they lost ONE HUNDRED AND NINETEEN GAMES in 2003 - breaking the record for the most losses in a single season by a professional baseball team - something to be proud of to be sure. Including their record-breaking season, they lost 106 games the season prior to that.
I'd say that if I were looking for a team to be proud of - the White Sox are that team. As a Sox fan, I've seen 3 playoff births, and one world series victory since 1990. In my lifetime - I have seen one other playoff birth and that was in 1983. Frank Thomas has won the MVP two times, and Jack McDowell and Lamar Hoyt have won Cy Young Awards. Bobby Thigpen broke the single season Saves record and Carlton Fisk broke the all time record for homeruns hit by a catcher (since broken by Mike Piazza).
I can appreciate sticking with your team through thick and thin. I loved my Sox through some pretty tough times - to be sure.
However, Georgie Porgie, to rip on a team like the White Sox when your team are little more than a glorified AAA team with a top-of-the-line manager is ridiculous.
I know my team had a chance to go out and win every game they played since 1990 (short of facing Johan Santana). The Tigers and Cubs --- there's a reason they drink the way the do at their games.
