Is there any other closer now in the majors that is better than Jonathan Papelbon?

Question:He has a 0.00 ERA and, out of the 15 batters he has gotten out, 11 have gone by way of K. That means that when a batter steps up, if he gets out, there is a 73% chance that he will be struck out. He has given up 1 hit so far and two walks.

Who were the announcers for the New York Yankees in 1991?

Even though it is early in the season, looking at last years numbers with the start of this season, I would say he is the best closer in baseball right now. Nearly unhittable.

How come on all of the Ichiro Suzuki baseball cards, it never says his last name?

Last year, until he got injured, he had an ERA below 1. If he can stay healthy, and gets a few years under his belt he will be an all time great.
Time will tell. He is a real talent, and no fluke.

Who is the All Time Baseball Player who has played on the most teams?

Yes, but you'll have to take off the crimson-coloured glasses to see them.

Anyone can have a good couple of weeks at any time. ANYONE. That's all that's happening here.

Does anyone need help with softball??

Who was the first player to steal 500 bases and hit 200 home runs?

Nope. And he could be the best for a long time to come.

Why does the white sox owner scream poverty?

Mariano Rivera!

What are the little league rules regarding practices?

Way too early to say. Hes only in his second year and hasn't stayed healthy for a full season yet. I need to see that type of consistancy before making a statement like that.

Hi, I´m from sports1234.com Mexico. Which are the latest news about Roger Clemens?

Those are impressive numbers. I think the only other closers worthy in the same conversation are Rivera and Nathan (AL bias).

Can someone please tell me how to get a fantasy baseball team?

no

What is this fascination with Nolan Ryan? Mere numbers?

The key to his success is his great location and control which often gets over looked. You don't post numbers like that without control.

Opening Day happened. What's your World Series prediction?

HE STINKS HE CANT GO A WHOLE SEASON AS A CLOSER HE WILL SHUT DOWN AGAIN LIKE HE DID AT THE END OF LAST SEASON. HE IS NOT A CONDITIONED ATHLETE READY TO GO 162 GAMES.

Did the Yankees finally win a game?

to answer your question.NO! Papelbon is great and I hope he stays that way!! Based on this year and last..he is the real thing!!

Who has the most consecutive stolen bases in MLB, all time?

At this point and time his numbers tell all.

Infield fly rule??

Come on. Remember last year when he started out so unbelieveably? What happened? He came back to earth when the real closers stepped up to be the best. Riviera and Nathan are widely considered to be the best in baseball as they have proven it consistently over entire seasons. Check back in August and then we can see how Papelbon is doing.

I need some ideas for a great Little League TEAM MOM gift, can anyone help??

No, Papelbon just may be the best closer of all time. . .Definitely one of the best ever. Yes, it's early in the season, but if you factor in what a great player he was last year, and how things are starting off so far, I think it's a fair bet to say he is in a league of his own.

Is barry zito married?

NO, Because I'm a True RED SOX fan, and he's good Reliver.

Can anyone give me a site to Cy Young's family/life?

If you mean "any other closer NOW", then no, there's no better closer than him right now.

Could this change by the end of the year? Hell, it could change by the All-Star break. Do I think it will? No.

He could end up being the best closer ever, one of the best closers ever, a good closer, or a one-hit wonder. He could bounce back from his injury stronger, or he could be plagued the rest of his days. Honestly, you just can't tell.

But right now, he's the best closer in baseball.

What is a good estimate for the average number of pitches thrown by one pitcher in an inning of baseball?

Sorry, but a Season and a-half does not make Papelbon (or anyone for that matter) the "best closa eva!!" - I think some of the folks saying that need to actually pay attention to rest of the Major Leagues first.

(Sometimes I regret that we won the 2004 WS due to all the un-informed bandwagon fans out there now.)

The limited amount of time he has been in the role and the tail-end of the season break down he went through last year are two existing issues still be resolved only with time and consistancy-

But the bigger issue is his pitch selection and approach- It is clear that he needs to develop and be better able to use his full repetoire of pitches- relying on his fast ball will become steadily less secure as teams see him time and time again

A big part of the Red Sox success against Rivera is that they see him more often (15-20 times a year) then any other team- and the same will hold true with Papelbon vs. the Yankees- but only a deluded fool would credit Papelbon at this time with the same nerves of steel that Rivera has.

I am a Red Sox fan- but you have to give credit where credit is due- Rivera is the greatest closer of all time until he decides not to be anymore- and all you pink and green hat red sox fans need to get a reality check and put your man-crushes on Papelbon in-check.
