How do you throw a sinker?
Question:im 15 and play high school ball and i want a fourth pitch to use
Answers:
Like it has been stated previously by another answerer to your question, the sinker is thrown with two seams rather than four, but I am going to go a little further into detail. Experiment with the way you hold the ball in the tips of your index and next finger, with your thumb of course resting on the bottom of the ball. The placement of those top two fingers will directly affect the movement of the ball, so you will need to do some experimentation to see what works best for you.
For instance, by widening your two fingers so the ball rests between them, the ball sort of slips out like a foot on a banana peel and the ball will sink even more - creating the "forkball" that you have most likely heard about. By spreading your fingers not quite so widely on either side of the ball, you will be creating the "splitfinger fastball", which can be an absolutely devastating pitch, because it looks like a fastball until the bottom drops out, leaving the hitter swinging at air. It works on the same principle as the old, illegal "spitball" or "spitter" that sorta made the ball disgusting, but helped a certain former Giants pitcher with the first name of Gaylord get into the Hall of Fame. If you don't know who that is, look under the "P"s in the Hall of Fame members! :-) Hm.did I just insinuate he threw an illegal pitch? ;-) But I digress..
Anyway, that's not all. Experiment a little with your own finger placement to see what works best for you. You will soon notice that pressure placed on the side of the ball with a finger on a seam on one side of the ball while the other is on a smooth part of the ball, etc, will cause the ball to move in strange and interesting ways when you become more proficient.
Throwing the sinker really isn't brain surgery - it'll come to you with a little practice and experimentation. GOOD LUCK! :-)
For yankee stadium seats...which is better? tier reserved or bleachers?
You're 15. Your arm hasn't fully developed, yet. Don't throw a sinker or it'll f*** up your arm.Who, in your favorite team, would you say is the underrated "Watch out for him" player?
As long as you throw a sinker right, you won't screw up your arm as it is just a fastball with your fingers along two seams as opposed to the four seam fastball. The sinker is basically a two-seam fastball thrown towards the lower part of the strike zone.I'm not sure why you would need a sinker. I'm assuming you throw a fastball, curveball, and possibly a slider or change. If you have two off-speed pitches along with what I assume to be a decent fastball, you don't need to throw a sinker at risk to injury. By the way, you probably shouldn't be throwing a slider at your age.
Why do Yankees fans think everyone has to like their team?
It's easier than you might think.1)Hold the ball with the seams instead of across them
2)Apply a little pressure to the bottom of the ball with your thumb
This will reduce the 6-12 spin. Also, be aware that using your thumb will reduce velocity a little, but that's ok. If you use the same arm speed as your fastball, the difference in speed will be negligible and the drop will be just enough to get your double play ball.
Going further. Take a little off of it. You now have a terrific off-speed pitch that sinks alot more. You'll get some K's out of it, but you'll get a ton of weak ground balls to 3rd base.
