Why do people like the Yankees?
Question:I don't understand. The Yankees are the richest team in all of baseball yet only have a 8-6 record. Just look at this. It's a list of the highest current salaries in the MLB and the top 3 are all YANKEES!!

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.....Let's factor in a few other items:
1- The Yankees have fans in Minnesota, Washington, Florida places like these because if not for revenue sharing
they would not have a team to root for.
2- Let's face it..they are good for baseball. It's a BUSINESS!!! They are able to pay salaries like these because of the product they put on the field. 30 other major league owners will tell you that they would do the same thing if they had the funds the Yankees have.
3- I still cannot understand why Boston fans are still so bitter.
Last I heard you guys did beat the Yankees and win your coveted World Series right. Another thing, regardless of what happens this weekend.you guys always seem to give up the division around the end of August beginning September like clockwork (but you know that already).
4- METS fans....you have a good team now, worry about them and winning that division cause Atlanta means business.
5- FREE AGENCY, TRADES.last I heard everyone has a shot at bidding and making trades right. Don't blame the Yankees for having 4 million show up at the park. Take your *** to the ball park and help out with the free agency push.
6- As a Yankee fan, I appreciate what George has done for me as a fan over the years. He puts a great product on the field, and one day I can tell my grandchildren that I got to watch some of the best players to every step on the diamond, period.
7- Lastly, this whole Yankee haters thing is just ENVY.

Actually Damon signed as a free agent, and so did Mientkiewicz. New Yorkers can like the Yankees all they want - they're the home team. As for people in other places liking them, well, they either don't have a team of their own...or theirs stinks. I'm a Boston fan, but I'll admit that the Yankees always seem to win.

We ask the same thing about the redsox. The Yankees had great teams and they have won 26 championships and we think every year we will win the world series. Plus if you are from NY you root for two teams the Mets or the Yankees. People love a Winner and the Yankees have been winners. It's has nothing to do with the money we spend. We can spend 500 mill and not win but it doesn't mean that we won't love our team. The real question is why do others hate on the Yankees so much. Back in the 70s there was only 1 team in the majors that voted against free agency. There was 1 owner who stated that it would ruin baseball. That owner was George Steinbrenner. First off maybe Arods starting to earn his salary. They have started out slow many times, and have always ended up in the playoffs, in my book that is enough to love your home team. If that isn't enough26 Championships, Yankees Stadium, The Legends that have played and set records, with current Yankees who are or will break them.

For me it's genetic. Anyway people tend to forget that back in the early 90's the Yankees were not really all that good a team no matter how much money they spent. They squandered their farm system for washed up has been players (Jay Buhner for Dave Collins was a good one) and made some bad signings in free agency (Ed Whitson anyone). Went through managers like water. Hell lord knows how many times they almost traded Jeter. This was a team that had to pull Tim Leary out of the rotation to keep him from losing 20 games, and at one point had Steve Howe as a closer. Of course during the 98-00 years they did (and still do have) a good amount of players that came up through their farm system, Jeter,Rivera,Cano, Wang, Bernie Williams, Pettitte, Posada. And pulled off some damn good trades, minor leaguers for Paul O'Neil and Abreu. Other teams fans just need to get off of it, just because your owner would rather spend his revenue sharing money on some business venture of his rather than his team it's not the Yankees fault. George plays to win, so if he puts the best team on the field that money can buy, than so be it. BTW those titles in the 90's were also won by players like Scott Brosius, Joe Girardi, and Charlie Hayes (hardly superstars there), and until Matsui they really didn't have a steady left fielder. This question obviously comes from a bitter Bosox fan (come on 21 more and you're even) or someone out of a smaller market.Do you think Hunter Pence from the Houston Astros will be rockie of the year?
