What does it mean when a pitcher is described as a "gas can"?
Question:I've heard a few old timers say it and I get the impression it's not a good thing. What does it mean and where did the saying come from?

A gas can is the opposite of a fireman or ace relief pitcher. They throw gas onto the fire rather than putting out the fire (opponents rally).I remember 30 years ago the Angels bullpen was so bad they were called the Arson Squad.

From what I understand, it has something to do with a pitcher with a lot of power - able to throw a great fastball.A pitcher can be described as having a lot of gas when then have a particularly fast fastball.
