Answers:
Plus they have three rings to prove it, ('72, '73, '74) compared to one ('89) for the Canseco/McGwire A's.
How's this for Major League Baseball?
The team in the 90's was deeper, but the team in the 70's played better together..What do you think of the Barry Bonds homerun record chase?
early 70s by far, much better pitching also.How do you think the Phillies will end up this year? Playoffs? Wild Card? NL champs?
The early 90's team. They had a better lineup, plus a good(not as good as the 70's version) rotation and Dennis Eckersley.let's measure it the same way we usually measure it:
the team in the 70s won three WS in a row
the team in the 90s didn't
I'd say the team in the 70s was better, wouldn't you?
The early 1970's teams won 5 consecutive Division titles and 3 consecutive World Series.
It had 3 Hall of Fame regulars; Jim "Catfish" Hunter, Reggie Jackson, and Rollie Fingers;
2 Cy Young Awards (Hunter & Vida Blue);
2 MVPs (Jackson & Blue).
7 20+ game winning pitchers; a home run leader; two different stolen base leaders.
The only reason they did not win two or three more World Series in the 1970's was the fact that they hated the owner, Charlie Finley and left as soon as the free agency started.
Is this the year that the Red Sox could actually win A.L. East ?????????
the 70s teams.Won 5 straight divisions and 3 straight WS. Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter, Rollie Fingers in the Hall of Fame. Great defense and pitching. Clutch hitting. Could have won more but were the first victim of free agency.
99-90 As could only win one series. Heavily favored over LA and Cincinnati but lost both.
The A's of the 90's cannot even compare to the A's of the early 70's. Three straight World Series championships should say it all.
