I want to try pitching again in JV. what can i do to be more sccurate and a little faster?
Question:any tips on what i should do in my motion?
Answers:
--Throw a bull pit between starts.
--Run. A major aspect in pitching is endurance. We have them run a mile the day after they pitch.
--Straighten your arm. Do pull ups, long toss, and throw on flat ground.
Good Luck
The key to pitching is to have a motion that puts your whole body into the throw, not just your arm. Your arm is like a sling and comes forward as you're bending.
The perfect motion of a current player is Mariano Rivera.
Watch his motion and try to emulate it. Your arm doesn't go forward until your body starts forward. Follow through with the motion and BEND. Otherwise you'll end up like Don Gullett and others who ended up with rotator cuff and other problems.
Also, strengthen your legs. Tom Seaver used to stride as far as he could and then pushing off with his back leg complete his motion. By striding far, it lowered his body and the pitch rose into the strike zone against the hitter, whereas his bat was going in the opposite direction (low to high) so they would tend to underswing the pitch.
Also, mix up your ptiches. A fastball and a slider is all you need. And pick different spots around the imaginary square that makes up the strike zone. Stay around the edges of that zone, mostly in the corners.
Worry more about the hitter than the runner. Don't let the runner distract you from concentrating on the hitter.
If you're not sweating and feeling the strain, you're not working hard enough. Pitching is hard work. You should be sweating from the hard work. Bring something to drink to replace fluids.
To help you with the pre-season work and getting in throwing shape, throw batting practice which helps build up your arm and helps with your control (you'll feel pressure to throw strikes) and you can work on your breaking pitch.
Good luck.
