Because the cold conducts the vibration of the bat better...so ur hands feels it more. This is why it only hurts on the handle or the end but not the barrel. When hit on the barrel the bat does not vibrate very much because the ball made solid contact. But on the handle where it is thin or the end of the bat where you only make partial contact with the ball the bat vibrates and the cold weather acts as a better conductor.
