What-choo mean Willis? Did you read what Dontrelle Willis said of Jackie Robinson Day? All players wore # 42.?

Question:Dontrelle Willis, in his infinite wisdom said, Quote: "I don't think it should be every 10 years that all of a sudden I see him on SportsCenter. I think it should be JACKIE ROBINSON month... It shouldn't take every 10 years or every fifth year to give this man his due." Unquote.
Let me see if I get this straight; Robinson has been given unpresidented Due for 60-years, and Mr. Willis doesn't think that is enough. He wants a month- every year, like "Black History Month".
Question: How about a Branch Rickey Month. He's the guy who actually went out on a limb and broke the "color line".

Answers:

Im someone had a 56 game hit streak and walked 4 times in the next game, would the streak end?

Excellant point...

Whats often missed is that Robinson was actually NOT the 1st black player...they played in the early 1900's...he was the 1st black player of the modern era.

What he did was remarkable...not so much his baseball accomplishments but the human side...with the racist slurs and segragation etc.

But...I would ask Mr Willis..i all his wisdom...that if Jackie Robinson is such an inspration to youn African-American players...then why don't more play the game?Baseball is actually losing black ballplayers and it ain't the white mans fault this time.

Does anybody know why Joe Torre is sitting in George's box instead of on the bench tonight?

Jackie robinson was the player who integrated baseball. we honor george washington every year. What jackie Robinson did was of a magnitude to where he does deserve more. If i asked you if honoring George washington 1ce every 10 years was enough, id garuntee you would say no. the amount of courage and leadership jackie robinson showed was of much higher magnitude. Every game he was taunted, called a n**, threatend and he still held his head up high and showed leadership. He was truely a great american. You dont think Jackie Robinson broke the color line in baseball? he was the man who opened the door for African American young men like me to play and have sucsess in baseball. I currently Pitch on a high school baseball team. I wouldent have that opporitunityu to play the game i love if it wasnt for Jackie Robinson. Dontrelle Willis was absolutely right. Jackie Robinson deserves more.

Where is the cheapest place to park near the Skydome to catch a Jay's game?

I think you're misunderstading Dontrelle's point. It IS a shame that we only recognize this accomplishment once every ten years, it's a shame so many young players are unfamiliar with what he did. (If you don't believe me there are some AMAZINGLY ignorant interviews with players from the 50th anniversary) I think his point (or what I got from it anyway) is that it is a shame that he isn't remembered except when baseball trots out his accomplishments as a special occasion.
