I think some teams don't use the players names because the teams has more history.

What do you think about that?

If I recall correctly, at the turn of the century uniform numbers were assigned to the players according to their position in the batting order; i.e. the batter hitting clean-up wore #4. Names couldn't be used because a player's position in the batting order would change from day to day. Eventually certain star players would routinely get the same number and the practice of assigning numbers to individual players began. Names were not put on the uniforms in order to facilitate sales of programs( an important revenue stream in the pre-luxury box and TV days).

In the post-WWII era, more and more games were televised and it became necessary to put names on the backs in order to aid the TV audience. Some teams continued to use nameless uniforms out of a sense of tradition.

Today I believe that only the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox( home) are the only teams to not put player's names on the backs of the uniforms. Am I incorrect?

How do you find out what your bat size is supposed to be??

There is no rule in MLB stating a team has to have names on the back of the uniform, which is different from some other sports. TV is the main reason that names are on there, because people are watching teams that are nowhere near them geographically. History has a little to do with it, but not a lot.

It's just an old Yankee and Red Sox tradition, I think the uniforms look better with the names on them, and i'm happy the Dodgers have the names back on their unis this season.

Back in the day the never used to put the players names on the jerseys. So some teams like to keep it "traditional". Also Some teams want to keep it about the team and not about a certain player.
