hmmm, good point.i did some research and i found this on hoopedia (hope this is more reliable than wikipedia).
we all know that wilt chamberlain scored 100 points in one game, the record, while kobe scored 81, the second best. we can judge from this that the two have a very similar philosophy, to score.
of the 14 years that he played, he only won two championships. let's look at his figures:1959-60 (rookie year) : he averaged 37.6 points and 27.0 rebounds. 1960-61: 38.4 points and 27.2 rebounds.
then let's see what happens in one of wilt's lowest scoring seasons: 1971-72: he averaged 14.8 points and 19.2 rebounds. yet, this team went on to defeat the new york knicks for the championship, and even recorded a record 33 win winning streak with the second best record of the NBA (69-13), bested only by the chicago bulls.

my point is, kobe should be more like that. we know he is a great scorer, but he becomes more unselfish, i think the lakers have a better chance in winning the playoffs.

um 81 points in a game? not exactly Steve Nash kind of game. I don't really know why I'm arguing this, I don't even really think Kobe is that much of a ball hog. He still manages nearly half a dozen assists per game, even with his 24 or so shots.Kobe shares the ball quite a bit for the team he has around him. The problem is he has very, very little help. Often times, if you watch the Lakers play, the kind of just stand around and wait for him to do something while Kobe has the ball. He certainly does have a "score first" attitude, but that's his position as a 2 guard. Give Kobe a little more help in LA and he'll share the ball even more than his 5 assists (which is not that bad) per game.

as a lakers fan I have to say they were doing alright at the beginning of the season, they were 15 games over the 500 mark until Lamar,Luke, and kwame were injured and Kobe was left with a old and young unexperienced rookie team. I don't think people realized that lamar was out for like 6 - 7 weeks and kwame was out for 4 weeks, luke 2 weeks. thats when Kobe started taking most of there shots, but it was also true he was a ballhog during the shaq and kobe dynasty. kobe bryant is a great player but the way he was playing at the end of the season was not making his team better, and I don't think thats a good idea for his team when he does that, the 50 point games was great don't get me wrong.Who is the best NBA player alive?

Interesting that LeBron was criticized for not taking that shot at the end of the game. My feeling is if it was Kobe and he took the shot, and missed for whatever reason (foul, mishandle) he would have heard it for not passing to a wide open guy.Heck, even if he made the shot, and the Lakers lost in O. T. there would be people taking about that. Shooters will be criticized for shooting too much and and unselfish passing players will be criticized for passing too much (LeBron & Norwitzski) under pressure.
Best decision making guy (knowing when to shoot & when to pass) currently playing in NBA: Steve Nash. J Kidd not as good a shooter.
But remember this: Kobe positions is SHOOTING GUARD, Nash, Kidd as point guards are playmakers. LeBron runs the offense from the small forward position since they are weak at the point. Dirk just froze. His job was to score and was unable to do it.
I'm disappointed w/ Dirk's game in the playoffs, at least Kobe went down doing what he does, what he gets paid for: SHOOTING.

Kobe is a ball hog. sure, but he needs to be 1. OK lets say we ask Kobe not be a ball hog... and the team is down by 15... I bet all u Kobe critics would look for him to take over, score 15 pts in a row and pull the team back into contention and start passing the ball again.
