What does the EFF(efficiency) rating measure in reference to an NBA player?

Who do you want to see in the NBA finals?
Here's the equation for Efficiency Rating((PTS + REB + AST + STL + BLK) - ((FGA - FGM) + (FTA - FTM) + TO)) / G
It's adding together your points, rebs, asts, stls, and blocks. Then subtracting it from the differentiation of your FG's and FT's, and then adding that to the Differentiation of your missed FG's and FT's together. I'll give you an example.
I'll give you an example of a fictional player.
Pnts - 18 FG's 6-9 FT's 6-10 Rebs - 7 Asts - 4 Stls - 1 Blks - 1 Turnovers - 3... now put it into the equation
((18 + 7 + 4 + 1 + 1) - ((9 - 6) + (10 - 6) + 3)) / G
So you add the first part which = 31.. Leave that part alone for a bit
Then you subtract the FT's 9-6 = 3
Then you subtract the FG's 10-6 = 4
Then you add those 2 together = 7, and then add the 3 turnovers = 10. that's the second part
Now you subtract from the first part 31-10 = 21
This player had an efficiency rating of 21 for this game.
Kevin Garnett has led in this category for the last 3 NBA seasons. LeBron was 2nd behind Garnett 3 yrs ago and last yr (last 2 NBA seasons). Kobe is 2nd this yr, and Wade was second before he went down with his injury. In his comeback he has played less mins and hasn't put up a lot of numbers so his rating has dropped.
Is it the Spurs fault Steve Nash is a wimp?
I beliveve the EFF rating is about the same as measuring the number of errors that a player makes in Baseball.More Questions & Answers...
