The Portland Trailblazers have won the NBA Draft Lottery... who will be their number one pick?

Question:This is the 2007 Unofficial sports1234.com Mock NBA Draft.

You can see the 2006 final mock draft that was done at this link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

I will be doing a series of these questions over the next week for you to reply on every pick in the first round, starting with this one: the number one pick. Each day, a different team will be on the clock.

This is really fun to do and there is alot of participation.

Here are the two players I suggest for this pick:
Greg Oden
Kevin Durant

Answers:

Is Duncan flawless?

haha I remember you, mr.jones! Has it really been a year already..

Anyways, easy pick: GREG ODEN

Everybody knows you need a premier center to win championships (unless you have MJ). Duncan is not the in your face, loud type of guy...But he makes his team better defensively and opens it up for his teammates, and that's why the Spurs will probably win it this year.

Durant is awesome, but wing players are plentiful and they don't do nearly as much as a top center can do (it's not always points per game that matters). Texas had a few bad losses and really couldn't beat any of the top teams even though the final scores were close. Durant might be more vocal and a leader-type, but it hasn't translated to big wins. Oden might have had the better team, but they only lost 4 games...all to the top teams in the nation. ODEN will be the first pick - there's no debate on this one!

Do you think...?

If they're smart and need a big man. Greg oden

Who is more overrated, Vince Carter, Shawn Marion or Dirk Nowitski?

Greg Oden. The Hawks need a center or a PG and Greg Oden is a center, the best one on the board. Kevin Durant is better than Oden, but Oden has better defense and he's at one of the positions they need.

Who Would you want in the 2008 Dunk Contest ?

I think they'll go with Oden, the league is in desperate need of big men (good ones) and Oden is one solid pick.

When is nba mvp handed out?

The General Manager For The Trailblazers just spoke publiciy on ESPN XM 1050 and said it will deffinately Oden or Durant as we didnt know that but that was his statement and said the would be revewing everything

What are the sizes of popular basketball players feet?

Kevin Durant

He is going to be a stud power forward. He has a complete offensive package. He can shoot a jumper like Dirk and has a low post game that when honed will rival Duncan's.

Portland really doesn't need a center, Pryzbilla and Aldridge can do the job if they remain healthy. Durant can also slide over to this position if needed, but it wouldn't be his primary position.

He will improve defensively as he continues to play. Nate McMillan can and will help him in this area. He fits in with McMillan's style and system.

Also the kid is nice and respectful, he brings more character to a team and city that needs quality young guys.

A complete package that could be the Blazers ticket to a title.

Do you think Mikey Moore from the Nets would fit with the Spurs?

Durant seems to be more logical, they already have a pretty good young center in Zach Randolph. Durant gives them a star small forward that can score and would compliment Randolph and Brandon Roy. Cant argue with the Oden pick either as that would allow Randolph to play power forward where he can be effective. Either way they go, its a good day to be a Blazers fan.

Why do my layups always go out?

i would say nick young or aaron afflow they r vury good usc ucla they will be good in the nba i no it

What are the reasons why Dallas has never beat the Warriors during the season?

Durant will be a help and a scorer right away. He will make the sudden impact. Where as Oden might not be a stud right away, but in 5 years will have a ring, Durant wont.

Who does everyone think is the "darkhorse" to win the nba finals?

Oden is very effective on defense and is less of a risk than Durant.

Wats wrong with the nets and carter?Man they lost 2 ina row to cavaliers!?

i think portland should go with kevin durant because hes a great shooter. they alredy have a post player zach randolph

Whats ur top 5 draft class of all time?

Kevin Durant hands down

Here's why

Durant brings more to the table than Greg Oden. He can shoot the ball from long range, has a fundamental midrange game and an above average post up game. He's 7 foot almost! Nate McMillan will love playing this guy. He poses all kinds of matchup problems for opponents of Trail Blazers. He showed in the NCAA tournament that he has the skill, the understanding and the desire to play at a very high level. Oden is no slouch but lets face it, he's a strictly back to the basket guy, I don't see him working on pick and pops with Brandon Roy. You can put that play to death when Kevin Durant is setting the pick and that play is run with jack/roy/rodriguez.

Oden is better hands down defensively but come on who really wants the best defender? Wouldn't your rather have the best offensive talent nowadays? Tim Duncan is a good defender but he is definitely not the best defender and he is well knows for his offensive skill than his defense. Durant plays above average defense with his looong arms and quick feet can cause problems for anyone he's guarding.

The league has changed so much that zone defenses prevent strictly back to the basket from dominating. Look at Dwight Howard and Emeka Okafor, they score on a few post up plays but as the game progresses they can't score anymore unless they get a shot in transition or from offensive rebounds. These two guys can't shoot to save their lives and with teams double teaming them down the stretch, they are rendered useless unless they can pass well. Unless Oden develops some kind of mid range game and a decent jump shot I don't see him being more than a 15-18 ppg scorer.

If the blazers pick Durant the lineup would be like this

C Aldridge (the pick they traded for last year)
PF Randolph
SF Durant (can move him to either pf or c when aldridge or randolph go to the bench)
SG Roy
PG Jack (fundamentally sound PG who distributes the ball very well)

The Intangibles. Durant looks like a real leader. He's more vocal and he demands the ball down the stretch and surveys the floor. We all know he can play the Point Forward. With Zach in the post, this kid can deliver the ball to him and make the right decisions for his other teammates as well from the high post. Dude's got a high basketball IQ. I watched some of the games that Oden played in the NCAA tournament, he's very quiet and he's more of a follower than a leader. He never demanded the ball which is good but thats not what you want that from a guy who is gonna be your franchise player.

What happened to Bonzi Wells?

Its going to be greg oden. I have just read some of the articles and am shocked. somebody called durant 7-2. he is 6-9. some of the idoicy is remarkable. if the blazers are smart this is they will do. they will draft oden, a once in a decade player, he is a monster on the boards and on defense which is the best start you can ask for coming into this league. he is also underated as an offensive player. hs jump hook was the most unguardable shot in college basketball last year and as soon as his hand was healthy is was money. he needs work on his footwork to be able to score on premier defenders like tim duncan. yes whoever said he isnt known for his defense just to let you know he is considered to be the best post defender in the game right now. after drafting oden they should bring in someone purely for him, like the lakers have done with bynum, bringing in kareem. with that draft pick they have a extemely talented young nucleus in roy aldridge and oden. oden is going to be the bes player in the league in years to come. he is an atheltic freak that is very similar to david robinson and he was one of the 50 greatest players of all time. as soon as oden develops a midrange like stoudamire has done with phoniex, he will be the best player in the league. with a crowded post they should trade randolph. he is a bad influence and will take away from the develpoment of oden one way or another. whether taking shots away from oden or complaing publically about oden taking more shots than him. perfect trade. they should trade for good role players who can fit in. there were rumours about randolph for jefferson on the nets and that would be a perfect trade. jefferson is an athelticwingmanwho can shot and brings veteran leadership to a young team. with randolph out roy aldridge and oden and good solid players that can be obtained for randolph the balzers now have the potential to be one of the best teams in the west for years to come. now all tey have to do is not be dumb and not make the mistake like passing over michael jordan for bowie. take oden trade randolph and suddenly portland becomes a team nobody wants to play.

Will Adam Morrison be a senior at Gonzaga in 2008? Or did he graduate?

this question is so incredibly easy that i cant even believe some of these answers. there is no reason portland will take Oden unless they trade him right there. they need kevin durant. the number 2 overall pick last year was lamarcus aldridge. why on earth would they trade for the number 2 overall pick if they are going to replace him in the draft the very next year. aldrige is a solid double-double guy that will become something big. they also have the 25 year old zach randolph at power forward. their 2 big men will be great for years to come.

that leaves either the guard or small forward positions. since Durant is so effective and great, they will take him and place him as their small forward. although they will need some long term help at point guard, i think they will get steve blake to run the young team. if they acquire blake, this is what your looking at:
C - LaMarcus Aldridge
PF - Zach Randolph
SF - Kevin Durant
SG - Brandon Roy
PG - Steve Blake

thats three double double guys in your front court and two great young guards.

Who's your favorite NBA basketball player?

For the first two picks im not going to have explanations because its no fun arguing over something that has been said on every sports show,

Oden First, he may not have as big as an impact as Durant but he is expected too. I may like Durant better but it would be like not picking Lebron or MJ. Oden is supposed to be the next best thing and no team is going to pass that up because they will be in the hall of shame of general management if they are wrong.
