It will depend on longevity. If Shaq has the edge now, on account of some very, very dominating seasons in the late 90s (I remember when it used to seem inevitable that he would score every time down the court).But if he retires in a year or two (which seems unlikely), then Kobe will have ample opportunity to surpass his reputation. Say Kobe plays at this level until he is 38... He'll end his career with about 40,000 points, almost certainly another ring or two, will approach a record for all-star appearances. Ditto playoff games played. Add that to his individual game accomplishments, and his career will outshine Shaq's.
However, it remains to be seen whether a lot of these high-school players can play well into their 30s. Some players skipped out early are showing fatigue a couple of years earlier. Kobe certainly isn't going to be a sixth man at age 33, but a 42% shooting Kobe is nowhere near as effective as a 46% shooting Kobe.

shaq will be remembered as being one of the most dominant players in the nba, mostly b/c of his big size advantage. but kobe will be remembered as one of the most talented players ever to play the game of basketball. he will be up there with the larry birds, michael jordans, magic johnsons, etc. he has the most dynamic offensive player i've seen since mj's prime. he gets most of points creating his own space and shooting, but he's shown time and time again he can fly and throw down to try and get his team going. he is a better player now, then shaq ever was, shaq just got lucky with the size factor.How come my video thing to watch nba highlights just stays green and i cant see shitttt?

I think it is a matter of opinion. Right now most people would say Shaq because he won a ring without Kobe, while Kobe is now trying to lead a team with virtually no identity. However you definitely have to look at what Kobe has done individually. He has come close to or has already broken several scoring records and has proved to be clutch at times.
After going to Miami, Ahaq and Kobe were alone. The ultimate test was to see how they could lead there new team. Shaq won a championship, and I think as long as Kobe doesn't get one (which he won't), he is the loaser in the race.

i think kobe will be remembered one of the greatest scorers in history. as in first person to come from highschool, highest average since jordan, 81 and helps lead his team to the 6th seed.shaq will just be remembered as helping kobe to those 3 championchips. and probobly the best center in our generation. Kobe had the misfortune to play during and immediately after the Jordan era. He has had to live with the next-Jordan phrase going about. Because of his athletic excellence fans expect him to be the role model for citizen of the century. Not a fair expectation.Shaq is a dominating big man who plays hard. He played with and against other great bigs. But because he plays hard and tough, fans allow him to be aggressive on the floor and then forgive him if he is like that of the court.
Both appear to be pretty good husbands and fathers. I believe in 20 yrs time people will look back and continue the debate. eg Jordan was the best. Going on what they have accomplished so far, it has to be Shaq. Shaq has taken three different teams to the finals a total of 5 times and won 4 rings.
