NBA playoff question?

Question:In the Eastern Conference, Detroit is number one in the playoffs. Then Chicago is number two, having the second best record in the Eastern Conference. Then comes Toronto who leads the Atlantic in the 3 position and then Miami who lead the southeast in the 4 position. Cleveland is number 5. But Cleveland has a better record than Miami and Toronto. Shouldn't the Cavs be 3rd? Why are they 5th?
I always thought that the three first place winners go 1-2-3 no matter the record and then the top 5 records after that from all 3 divisions combined. So why is Chicago 2nd, considering they are in the same division as Detroit.

They changed the rules after last year when the Spurs and Mavs faced each other in the West semis, despite having the best two records in the West.

Now, if the team that is right behind a division winner has a better record than another division winner (Bulls and the Heat and Raptors), they jump in front but they while the division winners can only go as low as 4th. This way, it keeps the teams with the best records from playing in the second round and still gives the division winner some leverage for winning their respective division.

It used to be that way until this year, they changed it because last year the same thing would have happend to Chi this year happend to Dallas last year, they ended up being a 4th seed even though they had the second best record in the west.

Two Part Question: 1) Can Utah come close to Beating Spurs 2) How intense would a Piston-Spurs Finals be?

the top 3 division winner always go in the top 4 slots no matter how bad their record is. therefore miami, detroit, and toronto will all be in the top 4. now you factor in records. detroit has the best record so theyre #1. chicago has the 2nd best record so theyre #2. toronto has a better record than miami so theyre #3, then the last slot in the top 4 goes to miami. cavs do have a better record than miami, but miami is the division winner so cavs dont get the 4th or 2nd spot. but if the cavs and heat play each other, the cavs would get homecourt advantage because they own the better record.

Who in the Nba wears jersey number 69?

they're third cuz, hold on(confusing), they're third cuz the bulls owned the tie breaker between the bulls and the the cavs toranto has always been there, the bulls usedto be 5th and the cavs used to be 2nd but after a lost to the heat a few weeks back they fell to 5th, but David Stern probaly said "the hell with it all 6 teams (pistons, bulls, heat, raptors, cav, wizards) already have there playoff spot racked up so the cavs could stay where they're at," but it doesn't matter unless you don't want the cavs (5th) to play the heat (4th)

After the gaffe last season with Dallas and San Antonio meeting in the 2nd round, the NBA tweaked the playoff format. A division winner is guaranteed a top-4 seed, but they no longer go 1-2-3 according to record of the division winners. The team with the better record gets the better SEED. But another interesting change is that RECORD determines home court advantage, not seeding. If things conclude the way they are, Cleveland would have home court advantage in the first round matchup against Miami, although Miami won the division. Cleveland has a better record, so they get the home court nod. The tweak didn't necessarily work for the East, as we could easily see a Detroit-Miami second round matchup.

What would the CAVS have to do to get Oden?

the first two teams on the bracket are the top two teams of the conference. then you go by the other two divison leader then it goes by records. order- pistons (#1 east and centeral), bulls (#2 in east), raptors (#1 in atlantic), heat (#1 in southeast), then it goes by record.
