Is the NBA age requirement a just rule?

Age limits are put on basketball and football players, however baseball and soccer players can go pro at 16. Basketball players have a shorter waiting period than football, but NBA players are tame compared to the guys in the NFL(who even cause problems at NBA events) People say keeping them in school makes them more mature. That hasn't been the case for the NFL. I think after a few years of being "the man" at their college they end up with worse attitudes than if they'd been learning from real men in the pro's. How many NBA players to go straight out of H.S. actually have had TRUE disciplinary problems? Take your time!

Will everyone quit asking the same question over and over?

Man, this is a popular question in sports1234.com , we need a forum or a FAQ section!

I answered this a couple of days ago, that LeBron was a specail case on how successful he was. LeBron and KG were the only two who played significant minutes in the rookie year. And most of the high school players were picked based on their potential only and most of them do not develop in time and get traded or sign with another team before they become a good player, not to mention those who don't develop, therefore most of them are a wasted pick other than KG, Kobe, LeBron and D Howard who stayed or will stay with the team that drafted them for extensive time. These are just 4 out of a lot.
T-Mac, J O'Neal, JR Smith, Telfair, Curry, Chandler were wasted picks, Rashad Lewis(I think he is leaving the sonics this year and he) as well. Robert Swift had not done anything yet, the Celtics had Jefferson, Green and Perkins and only Jefferson is playing well. None of these players had a good rookie year. And did you see what happened to Shawn Livingston?
Therfore, most of these players were not ready yet but nba teams were willing to pick them hoping for a big paid off in the future. because they still make money when their team do not make the playoff next year and get another high draft pick, they don't want to see a potentially good player go to another team.
Therfore this rule is good for the league in general but not for an individual team, forcing teams to pick the more nba ready players.

Who's gonna get the MVP?

Maybe a couple. Trouble makers in high school usually didn't make it pro...or even to college sometimes.

I know Spurs fans are going to agree but i think utah jazz fans should just give up i am jazz fan though?

Leon Smith comes to mind. I would say the reason the rule is in effect is to protect the teams from huge financial risks on kids that may never pan out.

Is anyone else sick and tired of the Lebron-MJ comparisons?

just like to say kobe bryant is my fav player but the whole rape thing was pretty huge and he has led the league in tech's a few times but football players would literally be killed if they tried to play in the bigs straight out of highschool the reason players in the baseball and soccer are allowed to go pro so early is because they aren't contact sports where players are regularly injured. i think the age requirements for basketball are kinda dumb but i understand why they have them.

Is azzurri man better than kobe byrant??

Man wat you talkin' bout, be over here sayin' dat NFL got more trouble makers than NBA. Yeah, you got yo Pac-Man Jones and tank johnson's but look at oj mayo, in high school and already smokin' weed, plus you got people like josh heytvelt out of gonzaga. dawg, they found magic mushrooms in his car. is it a just rule? definitely!

The Blazers Just Won The Lottery!!?

The whole NBA age thing is smart on part of the NBA. Let's say you had a billion dollar business and you wanted to keep it that way. Let's say you could legally avoid trouble by imposing or creating a rule where only a certain person of a certain age could enjoy this privilege.what would you do? The NFL age limit just makes sense from a physical standpoint.

Who won the nba finals in 1991?

I think it's a just rule in both sports. The league has to protect one thing above all else, and that's the sponsors. We've seen their willingness to bend over for the sponsors in the past few years when they applied things like the dress code, and those same sponsors probably don't want to see anything like a repeat of the Jail Blazers. It also helps the players physically mature, which improves the quality of the game played. Very few rookies are ready to step into the league and be stars as it is, and if the NBA let players join at 16 like MLS, there would be no way they'd be ready to step into the game and face the NBA players. Also, you can't compare it really to the baseball draft, where players can declare out of high school, because the NBA doesn't have the extensive minor-league program that MLB does. By the time most players make it to the MLB from the minors, they're in their early to mid-20s anyways. Kobe wasn't ready straight out of high school (7 ppg his rookie season), KG wasn't ready (10 ppg), t-mac took 2 years to score double digits after being drafted out of high school. With the exception of LBJ, most high schoolers just aren't physically ready to contribute much to the NBA (I don't include Amare because he was nearly 20 when he graduated from high school.) By giving us the age requirement, the NBA improves the quality of the game, and that's just fine with me.

First Basketball Game??!?!?!?!? 4 questions HELP?

Yes it is. A lot of kids try to make it big to fail. They should at least have one year of college expierience to grow and mature.

How many of you wankers still think Dirk Nowitzke is the NBA MVP this year?

If you are suggeting that football players go pro out of highschool you are a total idiot. A 18 or 19 year old boy could literally die once he was hit by a 34 year old man. Football is a totally different story than basketball the sheer physical difference is amazing. Look how much a senior in college woops on a freshman in college, now take that and triple it. People would get hurt. And the fact that you say football is a horrible problem? 95% of pro football players are good people, just because the only ones you hear about are Joey Porter, Pacman Jones, and Chris Henry doenst mean thats what everyone in the NFL is like. Those commericals you see on TV about the NFL players helping out the community arent just figments of your imagination. Open your eyes and stop being so damn ignorant. College improves everyone.
