Detroit Pistons tonight or Orlando?
Women do... but not at the level of NBA men. That is because the salary of women basketball players is much lower. If an NBA player is injured, he's still set for life with his $million salary contract and benefits.
Not so for women. They would have to find work elsewhere outside basketball.
That's why all WNBA players in the draft must have @ least a 4 year college degree. In case they don't make it in the league, they have a backup career plan.
Even on a 1st round draft rookie salary of $43,200 they can barely afford housing in the city they play for.
Most players earn an additional $30,000 to $50,000 to play in Europe in the offseason. They return to America in the summer in late May and are very tired but still determined to win.
They love the game.
Yes and yes. Men and women both strive for the NBA and WNBA, respectively. The difference is if you get into the NBA, you are, like every other NBA player, paid enough money to, if you save enough, never have to work again. The WNBA doesn't pay that much salary.
