What conditions must be met for an NBA official to whistle a five second call?
I know a player must have the ball for five second, but they do that all the time, so there has to be some other conditions. what are they?

Is anyone else TIRED of the Garnett, Kidd, O'neal questions on if they are gonna be a Laker or not?
They have to be closely guarded for 5 consecutive seconds. There is no definition on how close. It just has to be tight defense. However, the player with the ball has to be standing relatively still as well.To grant a 5 second call:
-Player with ball isn't moving while dribbling
-Player must be closely guarded
Technically the player can catch the ball. Wait 5 seconds then dribble once and hold it for 5 more seconds. So if you aren't moving you can only have the ball a total of 10 seconds.
