ESPN THINKS DIRK SHOULD BE THE MVP! What do you think?
In the 1986 All-Star Weekend, the NBA held the inaugural 3-point shootout. Larry Bird walks into the locker room and exclaims in front of the other competitors, 'Okay, so who's playing for second place?' He then went on to win the event, and also wins the 1987 and 1988 contests. The only thing that kept him from winning in 1989 was that he was sidelined for all but the first 6 games of the 1988-89 season due to surgery on his heels.Once before a game, he was told by a certain sportswriter that he never saw Larry make a banked 3-pointer in a game, and Bird bet him $10 that he will sink one in the game. After being reminded of their bet, he asked to come back into the game in the 4th quarter and promptly sank a 3-pointer off the glass to win the bet.
Before starting practice sometime during the 1986 season, coach KC Jones dared anyone on the Celtics team that if anybody on the team can sink a halfcourt shot, then he will cancel practice. Every member of the team looked to Larry. Bird then went to center court and calmly swished a half court shot. Just like that, practice was over.
If your life depended on a 3-pointer, Larry Bird will sink one for you.
BTW, Larry's 3-pt% is not one of the best simply because the NBAstarted using the 3-pt.line only in his rookie season. For the first decade or so, NBA teams did not incorporate the 3-pointer in their play, and it was not uncommon for teams to finish the season with around one 3-point attempt per game. Even Larry Bird was skeptical about using the 3-pointer in the beginning, but he has said later in his career that if the league is using it, then he will keep shooting it. During Larry's first 5 years or so, he only took a few 3-point attempts, and his percentage was usually in the low 30's.
I'm 5'10. Pretty good hops, but just short of dunking. Any tips for workouts?

Steve Kerr
Who has the highest mid range field goal % of all time?
If you're talking percentages, it's Steve Kerr. Bird actually ranks pretty far down the list (75th, .376) as far as pure percentages go. Miller is 33rd (.398) all time in 3 pt FG pct. While Kerr hit some big shots in his career, you certainly couldn't go wrong with Bird or Miller in a clutch situation. The two of them probably hit more "clutch" 3 pointers than anyone else, up to and including Robert Horry. Keep in mind that the line was moved in for a few years (entirely due to the fact that Michael Jordan proved to be a sub-20% 3 point shooter). So not all players played under the same conditions for their entire careers as far as 3 point shooting distances are concerned.
For clutch shooting, you couldn't go wrong with Bird, Miller or Horry, regardless of percentages.
Incidentally, Horry is not in the top 100, percentage wise
Also, both Brent and Jon Barry are in the top 40, in terms of career percentage... their father, Hall of Famer Rick Barry, known for his long range shooting ability during his career, is not in the top 100, because the 3 point shot was not a rule for most of his NBA career.
Did Dirk have cadaver ligaments surgically placed into his legs?
probably millerSteve Kerr is right at 45.4%
