Yes, it was out of line, but I think the NBA has seem much worse.The Bad Boy Pistons of the early 90's. Lakers vs Celtics. I've seen teams play much more physical, where almost every foul is like that one.
It was excessive, but not hurtful. That's a hard playoff foul.

Playoffs! Win or go home!Robert Horry will be remembered mostly for hitting clutch three pointers, so who cares bout one flagrant foul. Think about it, even though Horry has significance on his team, he does not mean as much as Stoudemire and or Diaw to the Suns. Due to breaking the rule bout leaving the bench when there is an altercation, the Suns were crippled thus leading to them going fishing. Smart! It's bout winning. Horry sacraficed himself that series for the bigger prize. After tying up the Series at 2 games a piece, there was a feeling the Suns were in control of this series now. Think about it, the nbr 1 offensive team gaining confidence and they found a defensive scheme that worked well against the team they have trouble beating. I think the Spurs were feeling the heat and had to do something to stop the Suns momentum because I truly believe if the Spurs played with the same sportsmanship as the Suns they will not win as many ball games. Face it, if you cannot beat someone straight up you have to do things to shift the advantage. Plain and Simple you cannot allow someone to take out you star player and allow their players to run in and out of the lane with putting them on their butts. You will NOT win against a team playing dirty and you continue to be mr nice guy. Again excellent strategy to get passed the Suns.
It's amazing how the Spurs who are considered so boring and so soft are all of a sudden considered dirty because the Suns couldn't take getting knocked on their behinds a few times.
It shows you how soft the NBA has become over the years when Bruce Bowen is considered a dirty player and a minor hip check is considered close to murder.
Steve Nash acted so much on that hip check play, he should have won an Emmy for his performance. His running momentum and acting slammed him into that scorer's table.
