Scott coached Detroit starting in the early part of the 1972-73 season until midway in the 1975-76 season, compiling a record of 147 wins and 134 losses, for a 0.523 winning percentage.
John Raymond Scott, a 6ft-9in 215-lb center for Detroit from 1961-62 until the middle of the 1966-67 season. He was then traded to the Baltimore Bullets where he played until 1969-70. From 1970-71 until 1971-72, he played for the Virginia Squires of the ABA. For his NBA career, he averaged 14.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.
