score 1952: I believe many basketball fans had heard of Kevin Durant before he enrolled at Texas. He was co-MVP at the McDonalds All American Game in 2006, sharing the honor with Chase Budinger.

However, I think that freshman of the year will be Kevin Love of UCLA. I think that the runners up will be Beasley (of Kansas State) and Eric Gordon (of Indiana).

Who heard of Durant a year ago? And, surprisingly as a freshman, Durant was one of the oldest players on the Texas Longhorns basketball team in 2006-2007 which only had freshmen and sophomores on the team. It is about 9 months too early to answer this question as to who will be the Freshman of the Year.

By the way, Durant, in my opinion, is good, but, in my opinion overrated which is why he will not go #1.

O.J. Mayo will be freshman of the year, assuming his overinflated ego doesn't get him kicked off the team by Christmas. He's pretty much already convinced Tim Floyd to let him do whatever he wants, and Floyd will only have him for one year. I figure Mayo will lead the Pac-10 in scoring, and probably have a decent all-around game in preparing to go to the NBA. And since Floyd will have no control, watch out for Mayo to implode the team, become the complete ball hog, and watch the team crash as he scores at will. Scorers usually win the awards, so Mayo will win.
