Well the 1969-70 Boston Celtics (34-48) and the 1998-99 Chicago Bulls (13-37) were the only defending champs not to make the playoffs. The 1956-57 Philadelphia Warriors were the last team to be swept in the 1st round that was NBA Champs. I do believe this is the first time ever though.
