Why did avery johnson rest his starters against the warriors in the last reg season game?
i'm sure this has been asked before. Is it some lottery math that would get him a better match up in the first round (or so he hoped)? Was it because he didn't want to be the one to smash his mentor Nellie's playoff hopes? What the hell was he thinking? Isn't it true that if they had beat the Warriors that game then the Warriors would have had a much lower chance of getting in the playoffs which would be to Dallas' favor since they had lost the last six games against them? and finally, why aren't people talking about this more? It is certainly one of the strangest, worst coaching decisions in recent memory.

Avery was worried about losing Dirk, Terry or Amare. Look at the Wizards, key injuries have destroyed their playoff hopes. Imagine Dirk falling down, with a broken wrist, with the top seed wrapped up? What would you have to say about Avery if he let that happen?
And also, the rulebook says when you are the top seeds, you don't worry about who you face in the first round. Sure, with the Mavs struggling, it is easy to show perfect hindsight, but then Avery was rightfully more concerned with keeping his players fit for what he thought was going to be a long May.
The man won 67 games, so it is not like he doesn't know what he is doing.
Hey, all you band wagon Dallas Fans, how do you like them Mavs now?
Yup. That's what I've been trying to say. Avery was an idiot. It was obvious that the warriors can create problems. They decide to sit his starters out and now he's got to pay the consequences. They had the chance and possibly could have just easily eliminated the clips and rest earlier.he thought they would have more problems with the clippers than the warriors... turns out he was wrong
another comment i heard from a sour-graping clipper fan was that it was a favor for nellie, his mentor...
Want dirk to be wearing other jersey next season?? where??
hell, even if AJ played his starterd i'm not so sure they would have won - maybe that's what johnson was thinking. but avery should have tried regardless, because had they beaten GS, they'd be playing the clippers right now and would have probably completed the sweep this evening.you always gain so much knowledge in hindsight.
Who can give me tips on how to work on my 3 point shot?
Yo Dude I made two topics on this, this really upset me because this ruined Clipper's playoff chances, and it ruined the character of this game as well. That is why I'm rooting for GS to beat Dallas for being such idiots. It was a good decision; nothing to play for don't risk injury.
However it has backfired in a big way. Thanks warriors for showing everyone yet again winning 67 games and having the bes REGULAR SEASON record doesn't make you a champion showing up and playing when it matters does.
Dude i am tired of this guys Bullshit and racist remarks if we work togther we can banned this?
He wanted to make sure they were healthy and well rested come playoff time. It hasn't made much difference considering Nowitzki is playing like he should come off the bench. Dallas hasn't shown up in the playoffs and you can't blame Avery. He can't make them play with playoff intensity.Yea if they would of beat the Warriors on da final night of the season, they could have gave the Clippers a chance to get the 8th seed instead of having to play a team that has dominated them so thoroughly.
They still would have destroyed them they knew they had to win out and look what happened tonight was a must win for them because if they're tied Dallas the home court but since they won it's much sweeter for Golden State. Also, they didn't want to have Dirk or Howard get injured they already had the best record so there was no point in playing them but they still would have had their asses handed to them so your point is really not that great of one.
