Some team in the future will break it. Dallas almost got there, they had a chance to get 69 wins this year. Even though it seems unlikely that will ever happen, some team will end up breaking it. The team that does this will have to have great talent, confidence, and great chemistry.

I think we have entered an era in which teams start benching players when they have locked in their desired seed. Back in the 1990s, that was frowned upon. It is a difficult thing to do and requires a hell of a season by a team to even win 70. Dallas came close because of three double digit win streaks and outstanding play on the road. It is remarkable that Dallas did it while in the Western Conference, because it is the toughest place to play. No, it won't happen again. Salary cap is starting to prevent that. Each team only has a certain amount it can spend on players, and now good players are demanding more money. No one here has mentioned the main reason the Bulls could do it in 95-96. There were two expansion teams added to the NBA that year. All the games against the Vancouver Grizzlies and the Toronto Raptors were pretty much gimme games for most of the league. With the expansion teams, the other teams in the league had their talent watered down by the expansion draft.
