that all depends on the kind of bigman you think is great. If it were up to me I would take a nowitzki over shack any day of the week. First reason, dirk can shoot freethrows and three pointers. For shack to score he only really has a dunk in his arsenal of weapons. Dirk is definitely a more complete player, most foreign players have a pretty solid overall game. Shaq is the most dominant player at his position, and might be the best center ever. You can build a team around him & I think Shaq is a better passer too. The better player is Nowitziki without a doubt. He can score from anywhere on the court, he plays decent defense and he is one of the best passing big men in the league. shaq is better than dirk. his footwork and savvy in the paint combined with his size make him unstoppable. dirk has small forward skills in a 7 foot body which make him great but i would rather have the guy who dunks or takes short hook shots all day over the guy who takes it easy on the defense by relying too much on the jumper. kevin garnett has the same problem- all the skill in the world but he just doesn't use it to punish the oppositionHow did Jordan make all his no-look layups?

Shaq is the better basketball player because he takes advantage of his frame. If you had a big man like that, you'd teach him to play more like Shaq because that is what you expect from your center. I wish he made some free throws, then he could be even better. But his defensive presence and offensive dominance can't be denied. Plus, he can pass well. He may never be able to shoot the three pointer consistently, but if he can dominate inside and get the other team in foul trouble, why bother?Dirk Nowitzki is a small forward trapped in a center's body. While it becomes a matchup nightmare to guard Dirk, you would never tell your big man to play the way he does. I think the Mavericks would benefit from Dirk playing more like a big man. He could draw more fouls and with his great shooting percentage hit tons of free throws.
I think the way Dirk plays is bad for basketball. He teaches youngsters to be jumpshooters, even when they have a significant height advantage. While it's important to be able to hit a jumper, it's better to take advantage of your size to score inside, draw fouls, and dominate the boards. More possessions equals a better chance of winning, and Dirk should be able to average double digits in rebounding with his frame.
