Is there a way to convert a center into a guard?

I was wondering if I have a chance of becoming a guard. I am only a freshman. I am 6'3, but I don't think I am growing much anymore. I was wondering if anyone knew some drills and other things to help me gain the skills to be a successful guard.

You will win the NBA finals?

Your size really can be an advantage as a guard because its easier to get shots up and better to play defense (like Dirk). My guess is that your biggest disadvantage right now is your speed and ball handling. Do plyometrics or other jumping exercises to add quickness (link in sources). Also do a lot of ball handling (or Maravich drills) to increase your competence with the dribble. Also you need to practice these along with passing in pick up games at a local YMCA or park. Your jumpshot isnt so important now, because you really dont need one to become a guard, so just work on ball handling and quickness. You can find other similar websites as the links i gave you by using a search engine, these are to just get you started.

NBA draft selection!!?

Try to learn how to shoot like Steve Nash or Dirk, they have the purist jump shot. Watch some of their highlights. Then learn how to drible really good. And when you shoot, try to fade a little.

GSW/MAVS game-What is up with the refs?

You mean like Magic Johnson? He is a PG who played center on more than one occasion!

So just work on your perimeter shots and running and dribbling. You especially need to work on fade-aways.

What did lebron whisper in gilbert arenuses ear last year in the playoffs?

As has been said you will need to work on your outside shot. Fading is useful but not a necessity. I would recommend three primary things:
1. Learn to dribble and have great control of the ball (both left and right hands)
2. Learn to pass (play street in 3on3 - 5on5 and make sure people are cutting and setting screens and work on your court vision/passing skills)
3. Increase your acceleration and mobility by doing lots of leg work (look at Baron, alot of it is all in that first step)

Mainly work on court vision and passing, at 6'3 you are probably too small to be a SG but ideal for a strong PG.

Hope this helps, I am also 6'3 and trying to do the same thing :)

Down with Cuban and Dirk! Who agrees with me?
