Whats the format for amateur boxing fights?
How many rounds, and how long are the rounds? Does it vary from state to state, or vary by event?? I heard they are 4 rounds of 2min each.

Sigma ~EVERY State that holds sanctioned bouts under USA Boxing the governing body for amateur boxing responsible for the Olympics and International tournaments have a certain criteria for their bouts. Novice Fighters and Open Fighters all box 3,3 minute rounds, certain International competitions and or National competitions hold 5, 2 minute rounds. Juniors are 3, 2 minute rounds.
If you go to club shows times might vary according to the coaches that are involved in the show anywhere between 2 to 3 minute rounds depending on time constraints.
Toughman and MMA competitions are not governed by any sanctioning body and can go by what ever they want.

There's no venue EVER that allows a two minute rest period it's always one minute, unless the fighter is hit low he/she has up to 5 minutes to recoupe in the amateurs.
Yes, I hear it does vary from state to state since they do regulate the *health checks* and other sanctioning and commissioning details. And it can vary from event to event, but basically, it usually turns out one of three ways:
--It's an "exhibition" match, meaning three rounds usually, of one or two minutes each.
--It's an "amateur boxing" match, meaning you get anywhere from four to six rounds of two minutes each. Or...
--It's a "toughman boxing" match (note the lowercase, a lot of places use those words without being Official Toughman, ok?), meaning six rounds, two minutes each, and you can get penalized for "jabbing" or "passive boxing".
Are there other, local or regional ways this can be done? Most likely, but this is the stuff I *usually* see and hear about. At least with serious sport boxing with guys. ;)

santana nailed it. i would add that in amateur boxing, every scoring punch counts the same. a knockdown scores exactly the same as a jab.(wish more professional judges knew thats not the case in pro boxing.)More Questions & Answers...
