Boxing: The Dangerous Instinct?
How dangerous is boxing? I mean what are the chances of ending up with punch-drunk syndrome? I mean I really want to fight, but this is the only thing stopping me. I want to be a scholar too. Also, why do guys have the instinct to fight? Do women have it too?

How many times did De La Hoya fight Mosley and Felix Trinidad? And who won?
Some women have an instinct to fight, and not all men do. I think it's mostly determined by upbringing rather than something your born with, though.Boxing can be pretty dangerous. You can get brain damage when you have to dehydrate a lot to make weight, when you're overmatched, when the referee lets fights go on too long or when you keep fighting too often or too long. There are really a lot of things. And that doesn't count the injury that can occur immediately with just one bout.
If you really want to try it out, though, go for it. You won't be getting into the ring right away anyway. Any gym you go to will require a good amount of basic training before you can even spar with someone. After you're ready, you can take some amateur fights, which have safer regulations than pro boxing. Be a scholar, and study boxing too. You have plenty of time to figure out whether or not it's worth the risks.

Look up the IFBA (Women's) Flyweight championship fight between Sidoroff & Blackshear, circa 1999/2000, to see two women born with an instinct to fight. This fight is still one of my favorites to watch on my tapes.
Lucia Reyjker could punch with the best of them. Christy Martin avoided her twice.
Reyjker played "Billie Blue Bear" in 'Million Dollar Baby'.
