In their primes, at this weight class? You'd have an instant classic. Arguello, what an awesome fighter. Nobody could beat him in his prime, except Chavez in his prime. I see Chavez winning by TKO in the late rounds. Arguello constantly fought Chavez off but a a dear price. Chavez iron chin helped him cause severe body damage to Arguello finally causing the great Arguello to succumb. What a great fight scenario. Good one.

Great fight! Truly two gentlemen of the ring. I honestly think that these two would fight to a draw the first time they met and I think they would have a trilogy with the likings to Ali vs Frazier, I would have said Gatti vs Ward but Julio and Alex in their primes were so much better than those two. After their first fight they would need ample time to recover, their second fight would take place over a year later Chavez would pummel Arguello's body while eating many of Arguellos legendary straight right hands. Chavez would eek out a close but unanimous decisions, the third fight would be much like the second. Taylor, Camacho, Haugen Jakabowski, Randall and Whitaker were never the same after they fought Chavez in their primes and although Alexis is a class act and a great fighter Chavez was just that much better.

Great question and a great fight between two all time greats. I bellieve that Arguello had a better jab with both about equal in the power department. This would be a back and forth fight with many terrific exchanges. Both would be staggered by the other several times during the fight with hard punches but it would go the distance with Arguello winning by split decision.

I go for Alexius Arguello. Julio is good but he can be outboxed if you stink and punch, and Arguello has the arsenal to do that. It would be close but I favour Alexis because of his reach advantage.
