Mayweather's thoughts?

Question:Mayweather claimed the fight with De La Hoya was the easiest fight he had.(He barely won that fight!) Then he claimed he should be compared to Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, or Aaron Pryor or even better then them. First I would like to get others opinions on the status of greatness of Mayweather? And should he compared to other greats like he mentioned?

His stats are impressive, but I would love to see him take a challenge and quit dodging certain opponents particularly in the 147lb division who could move up to 154 to challenge him.
Any other thoughts?

Erik Morales, who's to face?

Floyd talked a lot of trash about how he was going to to this and that to DeLa Hoya. What actually happened is DeLa Hoya carried the fight to Floyd and Floyd countered and made DeLa Hoya miss. Mayweather didn't back up his words with action. His speed and defense allowed him to escape with a close decision against Oscar, but he didn't do much more than run and flurry. The blogbaba still has trouble believing Duran and Hagler lost to such a style against Ray Leonard, but history says they did. I have the same luke warm feeling about Floyd above 147. Mayweather obviously doesn't have the power to hurt DeLa Hoya, he refused to actually fight Oscar after all that talk, he ran and pitty patted his way to a decision. Sure is was easy, as easy as running around the ring for twelve rounds, avoiding confrontation and countering when Oscar got close enough to press the fight.

DeLa Hoya was right, just as Hagler was right. You should have to beat a champion to take his title, not survive against one. Floyd disappointed me, but hey, like I said, I never liked such a style, Ray Leonard cursed us with flurry and run, or in Floyd's case a pot shot and run style that appears to be effective with the judges. There are a lot of things in life I disagree with, but they remain in spite of my opinion.

There is something dishonorable and unmanly in running during a fight. A superior fighter should stand his/her ground. Duran said "No Mas" out of disgust at Ray's tactics not out of any fear or respect for Ray. But all any one remembers is Roberto quit against Ray. Styles make fights, and if a quick boxer doesn't want to fight, you cannot chase him down without looking awkward and ineffective. Somehow this translates into a victory in the eyes of most boxing judges, go figure.

Would anyone want to see Taylor vs. Mayweather Jr.?

Mayweather is very good and Oscar was simply too slow to land his punches

If Morrissey and Robert Smith from the Cure had a fight?

I think Floyd is right up there with the all time greats. I think Oscar is the absolutely over-rated fighter. Everytime he has fough a quality opponent he has lost (Mayweather, Sugar Shane, Trinidad etc)

Floyd is a quality boxer who deserves his props.

Any other female boxers out there?

oscar del la hoys
should have one..
mayweather is retiring becasue since hese undefeated hese scarred someone will beat him...

For 2006 in boxing, what was the best knock out?

He is ranked pound for pound the best fighter in the world.

How can I make my punches hurt? I'm talking punches like a fist.?

I was rooting for Mayweather, so I'm glad he won... but he did say some crazy things last night. But you have to admit... the man is a good boxer. Last night he done a good job and he won the fight. I think people were saying De La Hoya because of hype.. but as we all seen last night he wasn't even connecting his punches... he was fighting the air for the majority of the match. Then @ the end of the fight he starts talking about how old he is and claiming that to be the reason he was beat. To me boxing is a lot about strategy and Mayweather had better strategy last night. His stats are impressive and I think maybe that's why he got the 'big head' last night and started comparing himself to the greats. Let the boy boast... he won a major fight last night. I'm sure he woke up this afternoon and realized he was just talking crazy.

Rocky Balboa Vs Evander Holyfield??

That was a hard fight for the pretty boy. De la Hoya did pretty good at fighting, Mayweather didn't really throw anything in all 12 rounds, he stricly stuck to staying outside, and defending. All of Mayweather's attacts were counters to De la hoya's initiative. So, Mayweather although natuarally very good at strategy, and possesing youth and speed did very well, but if he had the experience that Oscar has and/or focused more bringing the fight, as opposed to finishing the fight, he would have had my vote. All in all, Mayweather won no doubt about it, however if it were a street fight or a war he would be dead. Not because he is a bad fight, he is a great fighter, but he plays a game within the sport that is not appreciated, he plays the game of money. What makes the biggest buck at the quickest rate. I doubt that he will truly retire, especially since his prospect will want him to have more face time in the boxing community to make a larger name for himself. Besides, others are going to want that title.

Rambling, sorry, Mayweather is good, but not great. Truly great men know their unimportance, Mayweather is too proud to know this lesson. But damn, what a smart fighter. If I were ever to get into a boxing match one of the first things I wuold do is syke my opponent out to the point were they honestly believe that they are better than myself in character, and skill. Then, I would take that all away from them with a spectacular display of arms, was that this fight? No, only becuase Mayweather played his game so well that he forgot that he was Oscar De La Hoya, on Mexican Independance Day, that is like trying to take Santa's Sleigh on Christmas eve, it doesn't happen easily. I would like to have seen Mayweathers face a little more swollen, but that's what I get for ordering a payper view fight.

Who will win da fught betweun hatton an urango?

38-0, champion in 5 different weight divisions, recognized as the best pound for pound boxer of this era. I mean, yeah, he should be compared among the greatest. Would we as fans like to see his style progress to more on the offensive side? Obviously. But that's his choice. He's a smart boxer who minimizes his opponents ability to hit him. And he will live a longer, healthier life because of it. But yes, I can name three men who he really does need to box within the next two years. Shane Mosely, who arguably is the only boxer who can match his quickness, Miguel Cotto, and Antonio Margarito. They are the top 3 ranked welterweights in the world, Floyd's previous weight class. Now, I would really pay money to see Floyd fight middleweights Taylor or Wright at 159!!
