What gloves should I get?

Question:I'm 5'7, 230lbs.. will weigh around 200lbs someday soon especially with boxing training.. but I need to know what gloves I should get for my first year of training at home with a bag.
I want to get everlast and I want to get some training gloves so that I can have some heavy padded gloves so I can be quick when I take them off.. but are they good for the bag too? Should I just not even worry about competition gloves for the time being?

I asked this before and most people suggested other brands.. but I'd like to stick with Everlast. But I'll pay any amount to get good protection so I'm not talking about sporting good store stuff.

Are 16oz training gloves still consider "boxing gloves" or are they too heavy to be practical as boxing gloves?

Would 10oz bag gloves like here http://store.everlastboxing.com/everlast...

be able to double as "boxing gloves?"

As a 230lber, would I have to wear 12oz gloves in amateur fights or all fights in amateur boxing 10?

Im sorry but the first few answers suck.

First things first, boxing gloves have specifications when it comes to the padding. Which are strictly followed as long as its coming from a reputable manufaturer and not some cheap *** company, so as far a protection, you'll be fine with whatever you choose, Everlast, ringside, amber, even title (although they tipally dont last as long) are some of the best gloves that I have used. As far as everyone weighing in with their choice of glove, The difference between the brands is in the way that the glove is put together, some last longer than others, the way that their foam is stiched to the covering enables it to resist the breakdown of the glove longer. some feel like a better fit for your hand.but the real "protection" comes from how you wrap your hands. so hand wraps, and more imporatantly learning the proper way to wrap your hands, are a must.

now for your specific situation, Id say that You want to train with the hook and loop closure glove (the velcro), that will give you and easy on easy off method with the gloves.and at least a 16oz glove. AT LEAST. if you think about it, you want to have as much speed behind your power if you decide to compete, using heavier gloves in training will give you that advantage. I typically use 18 oz gloves. For me, its just enough weight to give me the best amount of speed, but not to heavy that I cant get through 6 rounds of heavybag work...when I started I used 16 oz...perfect way to begin... and the gloves are fine for sparring and bag work...

if your going to compete in the amatures (USA boxing) then the lightest glove you will compete with is a 12 oz. There is a competition glove especially for bouts that are either red or blue, with a white scoring area on the front, they are the only type allowed. Alot of the tournaments I have attended provide the gloves for you. but it never hurts to have your own pair. These competition gloves are just that, for competition, dont use them on a bag. For your purpose, you dont really need them right now.

also. I would not recommend trainig with 10 oz gloves, since 12 oz is the lightest you will ever use in usa boxing, you should never go below 12oz. 2 oz dosent seem like a lot, but when your throwing 100 punches a round, youll get tired by the end. Good luck.

If Tony Tucker and Tony Tubbs had fought in a fifteen round fight, who would've won?

You should get a pair that fits you good and that you are comfortable wearing.

How many times did former heavyweight champion Michael Dokes fight former champ Greg Page as an amateur?

Trust me...don't ever purchase Everlast. They're garbage. Try www.ringside.com and purchase gloves from there. Good luck.
