Ed Joyce for example, Mike Denness (Scotland), Tony Grieg (South African) to name but three. Then the media go * over tit with enjoyment when THEY actually win a game. What a farce - Cricket is **...

It does seem a little strange that Joyce is allowed to jump ship immediately from Ireland to England..he may now be qualified to play for England, but shouldn't there be a rule preventing players doing this without an enforced international ban for a couple of years, like in football ?Warne and megrath open second innings ?
There is a qualifying period of four years for moving from one Full member (i.e. Test nation) to another, but that doesn't apply for Associate nations. Thus Dougie Brown and Gavin Hamilton, two ex-England ODI players, are representing Scotland in the Elite League (what a misnomer!) right now, and Anderson Cummins (ex-WI) for Bermuda ditto. As for England being a team of ex-pats, most of the people mentioned qualified by loooong childhood residence (Strauss), British parents (Jones the Drop) or British nationality (Denness, Peebles, Such). When Scotland, Ireland and Wales get full member status, then obviously England won't get access to their players. Before anyone whines, remember there are a number of Pakistani players who played for India before Pak got Test status, and some Bangladeshis (or East Pakistanis) who played for Pakistan.

Who is the leading First Class Run Scorer?
he is only playing cos we are desperate. he would never get a sniff if we had our top players. yes he may have got a century the other day but he is nowhere near as good as strauss, trescothick, bell, collingwood, flintoff and pieterson. he is not a bad replacement but if england want to be competing in all forms of the game he is definately not the answerMore Questions & Answers...
