Advice on shopping for a bicycle?
Question:I am currently shopping for a new bicycle with a budget of $150. What types of things, besides comfort, should I look for in a bike? Also, do any of you know any good bike shops in the Los Angeles area where I can purchase one. Thanks!
Answers:
I highly suggest you buy a used bike, as it will most likely outlast a new bike of $150.
If you want a new bike, I would suggest spending at least 250-300 for a reliable bike.
Hope this helps.

For $150 you are pretty much limited to lower end hybrid, or "comfort" bikes, kind of a cross between a mountain bike and a road bike. You will get a lot more for your money if you get a used one. There are plenty of bikes on craigslist that are practically new and have only been ridden a few times. Besides comfort, look for a bike that is not very heavy, shifts smooth, and has a frame size that fits you well. Choose the type of bike that fits your intended purpose. If you plan on long rides, get a road bike. For off road riding and short commutes, a mountain bike is best. To look cool, a retro cruiser or fixed gear track bike will work wonders.Am I the only person that likes dual sport motorcycles?
