Addendum to question about Jeep Comanche bike:?

Question:As a followup to my question about the Jeep Commanche bike, would it be advisable, given that I don't have much money to spend on a bicycle, to purchase the comanche bike, as I don't have much to spend?

As you've all said, the Jeep line isn't good (but I only have about $150.00 to spend on a bike which means it's either this bike or a Costco bike).

Thanks a bunch,

Mountain bike help?

i'll be honest -this is not a tough bike. its basically the same as a costco bike with some Jeep stickers on it. this is actually made by a larger co. called Pacific cycle which also owns Schwinn, mongoose and GT bike, but they make their own models also. they have jeeps, chryslers, hondas, and smith &wessons from what ive seen. i know how these bikes are, i bought a honda bike from them and it came with a front wheel that looked like a potato chip. but it looks like your buying this on used. i still have my Schwinn S40 mtb that i bought from them Aug of 2005. it was great when i bought it, but after a while, things broke, and now i upgraded [$2000 worth] everything except the frame and seatpost, which i will be replacing within 2 months.

bottom line - if you just commute in the city or like to hit the unpaved trails occasionally, this thing will hold up for some time. other than that, save your money for something better.

Is it legal to bike on the interstate in Oklahoma?

I've seen those, they are more like a toy Walmart bike than a real one.

See, if you can find something at bikesdirect.com They got brand name components at low prices. Try not to get anything below a Deore LX.

What pair of dc shoes are best for bmx?

This is a reprint but I think it answers this question well

You could go down and buy something for around that price. I doubt that there would be many on this forum that would rate them as "reasonable". They will, however get you out there which is a plus.

Due to quality issues you probably won't get that far before you have trouble this usually results in the purchase or a better quality bike. Or worse giving up cycling.

With the cost of fuel, registration maintainence and insurance for a motor vehicle it shouldn't be that hard to justify spending a bit more on a bike. A good bike will bring many years of enjoyment and health benefits.(you might even get rid of the car)

If $150 dollars is your limit have a look at what is out there in the second hand market. There are many that have spent their lives in a garage, rarely used.

Things to look for

Make sure it will fit you

Slop in rear derailleur (if it is worn it won't change well)

Rub marks in the front derailleur. (less scuff marks means little use.)

shape of teeth on chain wheel and cluster (wear is obvious)

look at the spokes high mileage will show as an obvious divot in the spoke wear it contacts others.

When you find one in good nick get it serviced. If it has been sitting around for a while it will benefit from new grease.

Looking to buy a two seater bike?

It IS a Costco bike! Save up your money for a while longer and get a GOOD bike, or spend your $150 now and another $150 next year, and the year after that...
