Addition to STI question?
Question:Are these shifters compatable with modern Shimano durailers that have traditional friction shifters?
Answers:
I run a Sram freewheel on Bullseye hubsets with my STIs on a 2100 trek and it works perfectly, and the STIs replaced the down tube friction shifters, so there is no problem in doing that.
Another suggestion is not to interchange the Shimano mtb stuff or any mtb stuff with the road groupos that most likely will not work because mtb derailleurs have a longer throw to accommodate larger gearing and mtb cassettes have different spacing for there style of chain (size) and you can have major problems trying to do that so stay away mtb stuff it's entirely a different animal.
Where is the best place to look for cheap but good quality mountain bikes? (on the internet)?
a deurailler is a deurailler. Shimano parts will work together. dont cross them with SRAM though, that wont work. if you buy STIs then you should probably upgrade to a better deurailler too. if you can afford it, get an XTR ($120). its the best of the best out there.More Questions & Answers...
