9.5 mile bike race time?
Question:I am planning to enter a 9.5 mile bike race. I have looked online and can't seem to find good race times. I want to know how fast would be good, better, and best. They have prizes for first and second place and as a first-timer I think that this could be the perfect motivation for me since there is still some time to train. Obviously 10 minutes would be best...no dumb answers needed...I just want to know what average bike times are and what I should really be striving/training for. Thanks for any help:)

Your time would depend on a lot of things,the contour of the terrain, wind speed and direction, etc. But on flat ground with little wind, about 20 minutes would equate to almost 30mph, which would be an awesome time. More realistic for an average rider would be 20-23 mph which would give you a time of about 22-25 minutes.Can you get bikes that have radios attached to them?
Much depends on the specific race:- is it a time trial (solo against the clock) or a mass-start?
- is the course flat or hilly?
- will it be windy? headwind, cross wind or tail wind?
If you have a bike speedometer and it's accurate, see how long you can maintain a steady speed above 20 mph on flat ground. If you can do that for 9.5 miles in a beginner race, you'll have a good placing.
What is the best gear to start in on a bicycle on a flat surface?
10 minutes would be a rediculous time that would be going nearly 60 mphs and i dont think u can acheive that. 3:15 is an ok time 2:45 is getting better, and 2:00 would be 30 miles an hour very good high level racingMore Questions & Answers...
