Has anyone ever rode a bicycle across the US?
Question:Is there someone who has rode a bicycle through all 50 states? Does anyone know of bike routes/trails or where I can find bike routes and trails for the US?
I am not a bicyclist by heart but I own a bike and ride for leasure about three of four times a month. I want to go on a cross country trek and want info. on ways, routes and best methods to do it. Can anyone help?

There is a race every year called the Race Across America where teams and individuals race from California to Atlantic City. Check it out at raceacrossamerica.org. Personally, I've ridden from Georgia to Upstate New york, but I haven't done a west to east crossing yet. I didn't really have a game plan, just a map and some traveler's checks. Michael Shermer (famous skeptic) started the Race across America...he wrote a very interesting book on Ultra Marathon cycling back in the 80's...google it and get it.Sounds like you need to do ALOT more riding first just to get better fitness...on a trip like you are eyeballing.you would typically ride 60-120 miles every day for 2 months...perhaps with a few days off.
You might want to google "hostels" and map a route from hostel to hostel - where you can stay for $8-$15 a night and have a kitchen and shower sometimes.
