Does sprinting while running predict performance of sprinting while cycling?
I'm curious... i'm a terrible sprinter while running, so when racing i always had to make my move farther out knowing my kick wouldn't be strong enough if i waited until only 100 yards out. But now that i've begun cycling i realize many races are determined by a final sprint... does my sprintiing performance while running predict how well i'll be able to sprint on a bike?

What would be a cool name for a yout cycling magazine.?
it doesn't translate directly, if that is what you are thinkingit is much harder to sprint on a bike because the power is transferred through the bike, and you have to learn to "dance" without breaking the side to side rhythm, and do it very fast
not to mention that sprinting on a bike is more dangerous than running in a group... especially if someone falls (crashes)
Buying a 'Bike-in-a-box' from a shop vs a built bike from a bike shop?
Not the final sprint of a race, because you will be a lot more tired than you can imagine, it will be a lot harder to sprint after you have biked all those miles. Can anyone recommend a mountain bike rack to use on VW Jetta base bars?
A cycling finish is not much like a running finish.Aerodynamics plays a very large roll. You could be a fast finisher and still have people "slingshot" out of your draft just before the line.
Bikes are geared so it is about power tactics and timing. (Mostly timing)
Leading out at the finish is not a good tactic you break the air up and everyone will draft you. Then just before the line they put in that short burst and get past you.
Racing on a velodrome is the best place to learn how to finish.
So to answer your questions being a poor sprinter(runner) does not mean that you can't finish a cycling sprint first.
Not directly. Running sprints are more about leg speed. Cycling is more about power and timing and strategy. If you find your not the strongest sprinter, your strategy could be to force the pace earlier in the race, try to take the true sprinters out of the equation. If you can train yourself to go hard, really hard for the last 10min or so, there might not be a sprint, and if there is everybody elses legs are shaking too. A lot of races it seems the field is content to allow a field sprint, which doesn't make sense to me, in a field sprint, there are probably only a few guys in the race that even stand a chance. If you find your a OK sprinter, work hard on that.
Train smart, race hard, and good luck!
