How can I teach myself to ride a bike?

Question:I'm 25 years old and I never learned to ride a bike.

Putting it simply, my dad never took my training wheels off. I had an ex bf try to teah me but he had me running into fences and cuts & bruises is not a good look for girls.

Nevertheless I really want to learn to add to my fitness routine. At work all the co-workers laughed at me in disbelief that I still don't know how to ride...But, whatever I want to teach myself.

Any suggestions?

How do you manually unlink a bike chain.?

I know how it feels coz it also happen to me. I'm 26 years old and i just learn how to ride a bicycle few months ago.
Since i worked in a factory, i used to learn during the lunch break in my factory yard. First all the labors and my co-workers laugh at me, but then they keep supporting me.

this is my tip :
1. it's better if you used a small bicycle for learning, so when you loose your balance and about to fall your feet could reach the ground so you won't fall.
2. ask your friend to hold the back of the bicycle
3. for balancing : take the descent road

i have a lot of tips but unfortunately my english is very bad and i can't explain it very well. But i hope you'll be able to ride a bike.

Are there any specific skills in cycling?

If you want to teach yourself to ride a bike i think that you should put on your protective gear one day and ride very close to the fence so that you can have something to hold on to. Then when you feel like you are ready to let go, you should let go and pedal very slowly, then you should be getting the hang of riding the bike, and while you are learning, remember to keep your focus on the road and going very slow. But those are my suggestions.

BMX(Rims) Questions...?

Ok. I learned when I was little but I had a hard time learning
at first. (Because I was watching the front tire.)
What you need to do is go slow and look far in front of you
like a couple car lengths in front of you. Of course make sure there is nothing in between that you are going to run into.
You should probably try finding an empty parking lot or a path
that you aren't going to have a lot of traffic to worry about.
Then just practice, practice, practice. Good Luck!
Let me know how it goes.

Why do bicycle manual instructions reccomend seat/handlebar adjustment that promotes forward trunk flexion?

I taught my 5 yr old to ride a two wheeler 2 years ago. How I taught her was in this manner.

I took her to a park that had wide open parking lot with a small incline of a hill. (helment, elbow pads, knee pads, long sleeve shirt and thick pants, just in case).

I put her at the top of the small incline and let her glide down it. Since it was already an incline it gave her enough speed to keep the bike up. It took only 1 time and she got it that quick.

for yourself, I would do the same, get a bike that you can touch the ground easily, glide down the incline (without pedeling) this way you have your feet available if you start to fall. use your brakes and just take it very slow, you get it in no time at all.

How long is mountain biking season in the Denver area?

I was in exactly the same situation until recently. The best thing you can do is to lower the seat so your feet can easily touch the ground, then just get on and ride. Don't be afraid - if you fall off it doesn't matter. Wear some thick clothes if you're afraid of getting cuts/bruises. And try and do it in an open space like a car park to start with - if you've got a fence or similar right next to you then you can get tunnel vision and you'll crash into it. I only fell off 2 or 3 times. The secret is to just be confident, and don't worry.
