You should be able to stand with the bar between your legs and be comfortable. Your overall height doesn't mean as much as your inseam. I'm 5'5" but have long legs, so I need a larger bike frame.

How do you make the handle bars longer on a GT interceptor bike?

1) Measure your inseam. The distance from the ground to your crotch area. 2) Look for the "Satnd Over" height on the bike, this is the distance from the ground to the top tube of the bike. 3) If mountain you should be at least 2 inches over the top tube. For road about an inch. Everyone has a different comfort level.

Example: Your bike inseam is 32". The bicycle stand over height is a 17" Frame with a 30" stand over height, therefore you will be 2" over the top tube.

For a casual rider, does price matter when buying a new bike? Is a $500 bike half as good as a $1000 one?

I agree with the "get fitted".

I'm 6'2" as well and have a 36" inseam. I won't even tell you what size bike I ride because you should get fitted. It has to do with comfort. If the bike isn't comfortable you won't want to ride it after a while. The universal truth.

Riding is suffering at times and you don't want an action perpetrated by your own hand (buying an illfitting bike) contributing to your agony.

Who do you think will win the Vuelta (Tour of Spain)?

go with a 20"-22"

it really depends on the standover height. if you stand over the bike with the top tube between your legs, there should be a 1" clearance between the tube and your crotch. this is a general rule for average people. aggressive riders and downhillers require a lower seat tube.

I am just starting out biking and have no idea how far to go...any suggestions?

I'm 6'0 and had a 20" frame, so I would say to start upwards from there and go for comfort- a bike fit is definitely reccommended.

there are many websites that have bike fits on them that you can do at home, or plop down some cash and have a pro do it for you. basically it depends on your preference.
