Why did the New York Giants draft Eli right out of grade school?
They could have waited for him to mature after all. Most teams draft kids out of college.

What type of linebacker would I be when I gain the next 20-30lbs?
They didn't. He went to Ole Miss, the college, and got drafted in 2004.Football VS American handball?
WHAT? Eli did go to college. He played at Ole Miss where his father Archie played. You can't get drafted in the NFL until 3 years after you graduate high school. What is the greatest draft move in history?
Eli Manning spent 4 years at Ole Miss. You can't draft to the NFL straight out out of HighSchoolWhere will Ted Ginn go in th draft?
First off, Eli did go to College, Ole Miss. Second, the Giants didnt Draft Eli, the Chargers did.I'm sorry, what?
The 2007-2008 could be Eli's last season as a NY Giant. Without Tiki in the backfield, Eli is going to go through plenty of growing pain and wished he never left grade school.
what? The San Diego Chargers drafted him after he went to Ole Miss and then the chargers traded him to the giants
what are you talking about??
Did Stoops and Tressell ever coach together or is it coincidence car dealers pay their top recruits?
He does look like he's 12...All of you guys whom answered this question almost qualify for the same asking by default. The question is essentially inquiring into why Eli Manning is sort of.(how should I say it).."dumb".
Don't bust out the test scores, and the fact he went to Ole Miss. He performs (if you have noticed) better under a no huddle system and hurry up, where he doesn't have to make so many reads and he is just able to toss the ball around.
Reads are not that significant if you have a no-huddle script, and are not forced to "think" (ie-audible, change to "hot" routes, etc) so much from the LOS.
He has tremendous ability, but (coming into his 4th year) has issues with regard to making proper reads.
Now, lets compare him to QB's he was esteemed higher than on most draft boards:
1-Ben Roethlisberger (started in year 1, won SB in year 2)
2-Phillip Rivers (sat behind Drew Brees for 2 seasons, and in his 1st year as a starter, led team to a 14-2 record, and was a Pro-Bowl QB)
One could even compare JP Losman's improved numbers this year and Manning (as the 1st overall pick) has not accounted for much better than what even JP did this year.
Manning - 301-522, 3244 24td, 18int (77.0 overall QB rtg)
Losman - 268-429, 3051 19td, 14int (84.9 ovr QB rtg)
So by pick/performance standards, Eli is not up to par with those with whom he was rated better than coming out of college coming into 4 years in the league.
And some of you are wrong about draft rules, you have to be 3 years removed from High School to be draft eligible (not the same as being in college for three years). That goes for being drafted or even playing in the NFL.
Larry Fitgerald went to PITT for 2 years then declared. Why? Because he went to prep school for a year after high school. So he was eligible. based on years your graduating class has been out of HS...not being in college (prep school does not count as college eligibility).
Why does the south rule the country in college athletics?
Chargers drafted Eli overall #1 in 2004 and the Giants drafted River #4 overall. The two franchises were then able to work out a deal that would send Eli to the Giants for Rivers along with their 1st and 5th round picks in 2005 and a 3rd round pick in 2004 — from which the main acquisitions from this trade have been the three future Pro Bowlers (along with Quarterback Phillip Rivers) Outside Linebacker Shawne Merriman and Kicker Nate Kaeding. Along with the three Pro Bowlers the Chargers received for Manning in the trade, the Chargers also traded for Roman Oben, a Super Bowl winning Left Tackle from Tampa Bay with the 2005 fifth round draft pick. The Chargers will also consider the third round compensation pick from the NFL in the 2007 draft for releasing Drew Brees as being inextricably linked with the Manning trade. How hard is it to get recruited with bad competition?
basketball fan eh? get your facts and sports straight before you waste your time. Eli went to Ole Miss, drafted by the chargers and traded to the giants. He has regressed after a decent '05 campaign. But, don't give up on him yet, for most quarterbacks the light doesn't go on until their 3rd to 5th years. Even Philip Rivers, isn't all that great yet. Though, with an extra year of playing time, you would expect Eli to be farther along.Ah. He did get drafted out of college and he was not drafted by the Giants. He was drafted by the Chargers and then traded to the Giants. Smart one.
What team that made the playoffs last year will miss out this coming year?
I sure the just went up to a high school kid and said "hey I'm drafting you". That's beside the point though the NFL doesn't even allow someone to get drafted unless they've gone to college for 3 yearsHow will the cleveland browns do this year?
LOL @ the person who said he looks 12! I've said the EXACT same thing to my mother from the moment I saw him. The sad (yet funny) thing is that 4 years later, he still looks 12!We all know who the best QB in that draft was!
Cheers!
