What advice do you have to prevent my10 year old son getting injured when playing football?

Who is your footy team and how do you think they will go this year?

I coach kids this age. The biggest thing is to make sure that they are wearing all of their equipment properly. That, and to make sure that in contact drills the coaches match the kids appropriately, which they should do anyway. Major injuries at that age are really rare. I think a sprained knee was the worst we had all season last year.

Panthers fans..Why do they always leave it to the last minutes to decide to play to their potential ?

Good advice is to tell him to not think about getting hurt, and to do his warm-ups good, so he won't pull anything and that's pretty much it. It's really luck of the draw, but those things will stop those small injuries.

In my opinion you should have a fair idea of if your son is the sporting type or not,if he likes playing other sports and does well then let him learn from experience, accidents will happen in football.

Im just suggesting you be aware of how he is but not overprotective.

How tall is an afl goalpost?

In my younger days I coached youth football in Florida. I was the offensive line coach. In the 5 years I coached we only had one serious injury (a broken arm). You may think this is mean and cruel, but make sure you son is in shape. If the coaches don't, then you do it. Run him till he "pukes". That sounds bad, but I really think the better a boy's conditioning is the less prone he is to getting injured. We may have just been lucky, but I don't think so. Make sure the coaches stress fitness. Most injuries in football happen in the 4th quarter when players are getting tired. The better his conditioning, the less his chance of getting hurt.
