I personally prefer NRL, Go the knights!, but what code you prefer depends on where you live and were brought up.AFL tends to have more followers as there teams are scattered around australia. Super League messed up the NRL not to mention the referees poor judgements, so they lost a few supporters after the mergers and so on.

Rugby league compared to AFL is very different because AFL is a national sport. Nearly every state have their own side in the national Competition. Tasmania is the one exception. Victoria however is the main contributor to teams in the AFL with ten. NSW, Qld both have one team and South Australia and WA have two teams. With NRL there are only three states with teams QLD, NSW and the one Victorian team. AFL is played in much larger numbers all over the country then NRL and the AFL is profile wise much larger then the NRL. More people follow AFL with the average attendence at nearly all AFL games no matter whos playing being larger then NRL games. I cant speak for NRL but the club in the AFL with arguable the largest following would be the Collingwood Magpies. Being one of the oldest clubs they have a very long and proud history. Their fans, players, administrators however have largely alienated their club from the rest of the country. Basically everyones hates or loves the Magpies. i prefer rugby league its just more exciting to watch i like Melbourne but they proved like an total flop on the one day that mattered most, to watch live Afl is very exciting the nrl is about 20years behind the Afl and you cant compare the atmosphere of 40-60000 fans to 7-8000 at a nrl game but on TV the nrl is a more exciting game to watch i was bought up on Afl in Melbourne and you can never match the excitement of a Carlton-Collingwood game at the MCGIf you would like to enter my AFl competion enter your email adress?
there is no better game than rugby league,its got the lot,strength,skill,speed,,,afl to me is very mild and confusing,its not what i call exiting(but thats my opinion),,2007 beware of the mighty roosters,How much does it cost to get into a Hawthorn game??
I think it depends on what you are brought up on, and where you live. I love AFL, my team is Richmond Tigers. I find league a bit confusing, but its growing on me.Why are people so jealous just to report somebody because there footy team is no good its very sad?

Opinions aside, it depends where you live.The Northern states of Queensland, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory (where Canberra, the Australian capital is) mostly prefer Rugby League, with New Zealand also following and competing in Rugby League (although they prefer Rugby Union, which is similar in many ways to League).
The Southern States (Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia & Tasmania) prefer AFL. The Northern Territory follow both, but probably marginally prefer AFL to League.
As with teams, you usually follow a team that is closest to where you live, but there's always exceptions to this rule. While most people prefer one of the two codes, if a nearby team from the other code starts winning, they will very quickly "jump on the bandwagon" and start following the other sport.
